There is a bit of controversy over the exact location of the northernmost point in Africa. Traditionally, it was thought to be Cap Blanc to the north of Bizerte, but the point is now generally accepted to be Cap Angela, about 70 km to the west of Cap Blanc. To exacerbate the controversy, there are three smaller points within the area of Cap Angela, and they all extend north.
It would take an official survey to determine the exact point, but my best estimation is that the middle of the three points extends furthest north. That's what the coordinates on Google Maps show, and that's the way it appeared to me when I stood at all three points.
But then again, that coast is always being eroded by the sea, so the exact point is probably in constant flux.
Anyway, it's worth the trip in my opinion. It took us an hour and a half to drive from the medina in Tunis, and the last stretch of road is gravel, rock, and mud. But you don't need a 4x4 or anything; just go slowly. And bring your own water and snacks.
The place is essentially deserted, but there were a couple of fishermen hanging out in a shack, and we met a Tunisian kid spearfishing in the surf. Overall, a pretty...
Read moreA monumental view and a location that should be on your bucket list if you’re an enthusiastic traveler. Expect some driving adventure to get there as part of the road is unpaved and sandy but no 4 wheel drive is required. But you must be brave and have faith that the bumps will have an end and there is a sight to be seen at the end of the road. The small beach is in a peaceful cove. It is a short walk from the parking lot and is one of the cleanest you can swim in. It has sand and also rocks on another side. You can see the bottom of the sea very clearly whether you open your eyes above or under the surface of the water. The shimmering turquoise lights are pleasure to the senses. The place was peaceful and only a few people were there on a weekday in June. The beach has small cabanas and umbrellas for rent if you need to and a...
Read moreWhere ever I travel to, I try to find places just like this! Of course, they are touristy but they are a great photo spot! We traveled from Tunis and this was a lovely ride. Great scenery, great people, and an easy ride to the northern tip of the great continent of Africa. When you get there you definitely have to pull off the road and park. You'll need to walk to the beach and to the photo spot. A great statue of the African continent and a huge flag of Tunisia awaits you. Only a few people were around when we were there and we loved that. It was quite windy in March. Make sure this is on your...
