Chebika is a mountain oasis in western Tunisia, in Tozeur Governorate. Chebika is, along with Tamerza and Midès, one of the three most famous mountain oasis in Tunisia. Its main attraction is a picturesque fountain, located at the bottom of an old Berber village, with small palm trees and a waterfall. It feeds a few underground streams and a network of underground channels that supply wells, through which fruit trees are grown in an otherwise completely barren territory. This oasis owes its prosperity to a sophisticated irrigation system that ensures balance and keeps an equitable distribution of water to all fields. The best way to explore Chebika and the palms is up the rocky path that leads to the ruins of the old city, where there is a magnificent view of the Lower Atlas mountains, forming a canyon of 150 m high with palms at the bottom. Then you go down rock stairs to a beautiful canyon. The path leads to a small waterfall that feeds a spring. Return via the path that runs along the canyon and climb the stairs again. Upstairs is a tourist area with stalls selling drinks...

This place is a piece of heaven in Tunisia. The best season to go there is during spring or winter Holidays because it was extremely hot when i went there during summer. There are plenty of villages in the way to Chebika or close to it and a few traditional restaurants where you can drink Tunisian tea. If you have your own camper you can stay overnight there and keep in mind the place is very very safe.

This is literally one of the most beautiful landscapes i’ve ever seen in my life, very calm, i could go there and walk amongst the Palm Trees for hours and enjoy the smell of the Oasis that’s so unique, it’s so relaxing, not to forget that Chebika Oasis is ranked as one of the 10 top Oases in the world!

Finally you can also visit the Historical Village of Chebika, it’s abandoned now and only ruins are left there, it used to be home for Imazighen who are the Indigenous people to North Africa and they still live there but they moved to the Modern side...

Chebika Oasis is naturally special due to the presence of water, but even in February, outside the peak season, it was packed with tourists. As soon as we arrived and were deciding where to park, a young man followed us, insisting in perfect English that we needed a guide for 30 dinars because we could "get lost" in the canyon—which, by the way, is just a 5-minute walk away. While the price isn’t high, they don’t really give you the option to explore this small wonder on your own.

They are also unfriendly towards dogs. Even though ours was on a leash and well-behaved, it was clear they see dogs as unclean animals, which left a very negative impression.

We saw the oasis in about 10 minutes and decided to leave, as we felt surrounded by people trying to sell us something in an overly insistent and forced-friendly manner. Not the experience we...
