8 years later, I had the opportunity to see this magnificent temple for the second time. Like the first time, I was enchanted by its history and beauty, it is a must-see place.

If you are coming by car, there is a parking lot at the entrance of the hill. As soon as you get out of the vehicle, the attendant comes to you and asks for 20 TL.

To reach the temple, you have to climb the hill for 15-20 minutes. My advice is to drink a glass of black mulberry(Karadut) juice at the beginning of the road, because you will need energy. When you see the Single Domed Mosque with White Minaret, take a deep breath, you are almost there.

If you have a museum card, you can pass the turnstiles without waiting in line. Otherwise, the entrance is 50 TL. There were 5-10 people in line when I went.

The Temple of Athena is the first stop of the ancient Ruins. You can go to the Theater, Agora and other structures on the pathway after passing the turnstiles. But I must warn, the road is very long and hilly.

Have a...

The Assos Athena Temple is an iconic structure located in the ancient city of Assos, within the Behramkale Village in Çanakkale, Turkey. Built in the 6th century BCE, it stands on the acropolis of Assos at 235 meters above sea level, offering breathtaking views of the Aegean Sea and the nearby island of Lesbos. The temple is significant as the only example of Doric-style architecture from the Archaic period in Anatolia.

Dedicated to the goddess Athena, the temple was central to the city’s spiritual life and symbolizes wisdom and protection. It originally featured 34 columns and housed a statue of Athena, though much of its original structure is now in ruins due to time and looting. Archaeological excavations in Assos began in the 19th century and continue today, preserving its historical essence.

The temple’s location and its stunning sunset views make it a popular destination for history enthusiasts and...

Assos also known as Behramkale or for short Behram, is a small historically rich town in the Ayvacık district of the Çanakkale Province, Turkey. Ruins of the Temple of Athena in Assos is what I call a “must visit” location. Behramkale village is an old village found during the Ottoman Empire. The village is built inside the ancient walls. It consists of only 150 houses. As it is a protected site for the last 30 years, it is forbidden to build new houses; only the existing houses can be restored. There are pansions, hotels and restaurants in the village, in which it is a pleasure to spend time due to the phenomenal scenery and historical atmosphere. The gate of Assos Ancient City is situated on the top of the hill. A stone slope reaches to the gate. When you enter the gate you reach Temple of Athena. Also, inside the village, there is a mosque and a bridge built during the Ottomans:

Good Choice Athena! I can't say this ancient temple and city around is the best but definitely one the best views it has. If you can catch the sun set there, it can be amazing and definitely you will feel like a god here. Some advices, definitely you must have some water with you cuz there is nothing inside and it s big area to walk, and must read some history before arriving, some sources and researchers say history of the city goes around 4000 years ! And last on the way back don't forget to buy "kekik" it s coming directly from mountain and natives selling them. Perfect for meat, soup and salads
