Polonezköy Zoo, nestled within the expansive Polonezköy Nature Park in Istanbul's Beykoz district, offers visitors a unique experience to connect with nature and observe a diverse array of animals. Established in 1981, this zoo has evolved into a sanctuary that emphasizes natural habitats over traditional enclosures, allowing animals to roam more freely and visitors to engage with them in a more intimate setting.

The zoo is home to a variety of species, including mammals, birds, and reptiles. Visitors can encounter animals such as deer, llamas, swans, wallabies, and many others. One of the standout features of Polonezköy Zoo is the minimal use of cages, enabling children and adults alike to observe and interact with animals up close, fostering a deeper appreciation for wildlife.

Beyond the animal exhibits, Polonezköy Nature Park provides a serene escape from the bustling city life of Istanbul. The park's lush greenery, comprising ancient oak and pine trees, offers a tranquil environment for relaxation and exploration. Visitors can enjoy leisurely walks, picnics, and even stay overnight in accommodations that blend harmoniously with the natural surroundings.

For those planning a visit, the zoo is accessible by private vehicle or public transportation. From Istanbul's European side, travelers can cross the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge and follow signs to Polonezköy. Alternatively, the 137 bus line stops near the zoo, with a short walk leading to the entrance. The zoo operates daily, with varying hours depending on the season, so it's advisable to check the latest timings before planning your trip.

In summary, Polonezköy Zoo offers a refreshing blend of wildlife observation and natural beauty, making it an ideal destination for families, nature enthusiasts, and anyone seeking a peaceful retreat from urban...

Generally a positive experience, with a beautiful setting though I'm wondering if the place needs a cash injection right now. Some of the animals in the forest enclosures looked a little neglected tbh, especially a rather mangey-looking fox and a pair of tatty yaks. I also felt some of the forest compounds were rather small and lacked any kind of stimulation - especially for the wolves, who scarcely seemed to have more than 50m2 of wire-fenced forest ground to run about in. And I hope I'm wrong, but are they actually pure-bred wolves, or wolf-dog hybrids? One of them has an admittedly beautiful coat... just like a golden retriever. And the coatis were doing that thing that bored incarcerated animals often do - running perpetually up and down the same few metres, sniffing at the same places, mechanically scampering through the same tunnels and back, as if just counting away the minutes until the next feeding time. I think the zoo clearly loves its animals, but I'm sure a few of them would benefit from a bit more cash, and imagination. Especially the wolves. Or whatever they are... Place is great for kids and many animals roam free. It's a bit pricey. Just myself and my 14-year old daughter. 500tl all told. Even with...

Nice place but consider before go there and ask yourself what do you expect to see?

Greenery and nice zoo / park Some animals are free to touch such as Pony, Duck, Parrot, Sheep, Donkey etc.

There is no proper information before go there (internet search, price, working hours etc) Ticket prices for Turkish citizens are high. And it should be free under 3 years old. There is a cafe and tables to sit and eat but prices high, no more options, no breakfast. Not managing properly. But you can sit and take some rest under the trees next to cafe. Food not allowed to bring inside even you have children! It is unacceptable because every child has their own food, water, formula etc. to protect them against allergy and rotten food. Personnel at the entrance not kind. They dont say welcome or any warm words. Only ask for if you have water or food in your bag!

PS. There is a car parking area in front of the entrance. Use your car or rent a car, can not find a taxi. Eat before go or plan your meal after tour, there are lots of places in Polonezkoy. 1-2 hours tour is enough to see animals. Or you can spend 3-4 hours if you try hammock for leisure, watch animal more. Morning time or afternoon is...

Regarding the animals, they are in perfect order, but the organizational aspects leave much to be desired. The entrance to the park is quite high -- 480 liras for foreigners. However, they do not accept residence permit (ikamet) for the discount. I have and show ikamet- but I was refused a discount. It made me sad. After all, a foreigner coming here already spends a lot of money to get there. However , they charge an increased price for it. It doesn't look fair. If the price was a little lower, I would have come not 1 time, but much more, and so it's too high. They got 1 time 480 liras, instead many times of normal price (280+-). Paying for animal's food only cash, 50 liras. Touching animals are funny animals that can be scratched, stroked, there are dogs, cats, pigs, ducks and all that kind of stuff really animals really. There are good ones there. I was surprised by an ostrich that ate a plastic bottle in front of my eyes, however, as the zoo staff said-this is the ok, it really looked unusual.

I was very much looking forward to visiting this zoo and was expecting to see a bunch of exotic animals, unfortunately there weren't many. But the good point about this zoo was that it's located right in the middle of a huge jungle and that sets the atmosphere to visiting some wild animals just right. Visiting a zoo can always be upsetting to some people, regarding the animals being held in cages; but this jungle-like area reduced that feeling a little bit plus there were specific kinds of animals which were completely running free. Don't forget to check out the map right after the entrance because you might not notice the signs that lead to the wolves' cages. We went there on a holiday so it was pretty crowded with quite a long line at the entrance, you might wanna choose less busy days. The fees differ (from 100 to 350 TL) according to age and also if you are a Turkish citizen or not. So if you have a kimlik, make sure to mention it and show it.
