Tripolis are one of the border, trade and agriculture centres providing transportation to Karya and Phrygia regions in Lidia region. Its establishment type and city understanding makes it one of the richest cities of the region. Tripoli is estimated to be established in the Lidian Period. There is no historical information relating to the Lidian, Persian and Hellenistic Periods, yet. No ruins from these periods were encountered, either. The ruins of the city have theRoman and Byzantine Period character in terms of style. Best samples of the monumental buildings are constructed in the1st, 2nd and 3rd centuries AD. In accordance with Pliny, another name of the city is Apolloia. The names of goddess Leto, the Letoia Phthia games and the Menderes River exist on the coins. Tripolis and its surroundings has been the scene for many earthquakes and wars in the history. The name of Tripolis, being called in the list of Lidian Bishops list show that it was a city in bishopric level.

It is situated about 40 km north of Denizli, east of Buldan and Yenicekent Towns, at the foot of a hill which is between Buyuk Menderes River and Yenicekent Town. Tripolis was one of the frontier centers of commerce and agriculture in the Lydia Region which supplied transportation between Karia, Phrygia, and Tripolis. It was one of the richest cities in the region because of its strategic location. It is believed to have been founded by citizens of Pergamum. The best extant monuments date from the 1st - 3rd centuries A.D. According to Plinius, another name of the city was Apollonia. There are names of the goddess Leto, Letoia Phthia Games and the Menderes River on their coins. The city suffered many earthquakes and wars throughout history. Tripolis is mentioned in the list of participants at the Council of Nicaea in 325 A.D. This shows Tripolis was an important religious city during that period

Make sure not to miss this hidden gem if you're in the vicinity. Located approximately 40 km north of Denizli, to the east of Buldan and Yenicekent Towns, it nestles at the base of a hill nestled between the Buyuk Menderes River and Yenicekent Town. The stunning natural landscape, especially the mountain views, makes it a destination worth exploring! Continuous excavation efforts are underway, revealing more of its historical treasures. Informative signs have been strategically placed to guide visitors through the site. For those seeking a brief adventure, the panoramic view from the hilltop is simply breathtaking. Admission is currently free, with closing time set at 5:00 PM. During our visit, there were no other tourists around, just a few dedicated excavators working nearby.

Yenicekent köy merkezine ulaştıktan sonra sağa dönüp 1 km gidince antik kente ulaşıyorsunuz. Giriş ücretsiz. Alanda herhangi bir tesis ya da market bulunmuyor. Batıya ve kuzeye açılan vadilerle Ege’ye güneydoğusundaki Çürüksu Ovası ve vadileri ile İç Anadolu ve Akdeniz’e ulaşımı bulunan antik kentlerden birisidir. Kentin güneyinde Çürüksu Vadisi’nde kurulmuş olan çağdaşı Laodikeia’ya 30 kilometre, Hierapolis’e ise 20 kilometre uzaklıktadır. Kaynaklarda Tripolis’in ilk adının Apollonia olduğu daha sonra Geç Helenistik Dönem'de Tripolis olarak adlandırıldığı ve ilk kuruluşunun Lidya Devleti zamanında olduğuna ilişkin belgelere rastlanılmaktadır. Tripolis, Lidya şehirleri arasında yer almasına karşın Frigya ve Karya bölgelerine ulaşımı sağlayan önemli sınır, ticaret ve tarım merkezlerinden biri görünümündedir. Menderes Nehri ile Çürüksu Çayı’nın bereketlendirdiği, Çürüksu Ovası’nın büyük bir bölümüne hakim kentlerden biri olup, kuruluş biçimiyle ve şehircilik anlayışı ile yörenin en zengin kentleri arasında yer almaktadır. Tripolis’in ilk kuruluşunun Lidyalılar zamanında olmasına karşın, yüzeydeki kalıntılar uslup olarak Roma ve Bizans dönemi mimari özelliklerini ve yapı örneklerini göstermektedir. Tripolis Antik Kenti İ.Ö. II. yüzyıl sonları ile İ.S. I. yyüzyıl ortalarında ve IV. yüzyıl ortalarında birçok deprem ve savaşlara sahne olduğundan çok tahrip olmuştur. Kent en görkemli dönemini Roma Devri'nde yaşamıştır.

Tripolis Antik Kenti Denizli ili, Buldan ilçesi, Yenicekent Mahallesi sınırları içerisinde yer almaktadır. Başta Plinius ve Ptolemaios olmak üzere birçok antik yazarın metinlerinde adı geçen kent MS 17. yüzyıldan itibaren seyyahlar tarafından ziyaret edilmiştir. Helenistik Dönem'de Phrygia, Karia ve Lydia Bölgelerinin kesişim noktasında olan kent, Lydia Bölgesi sınırları içerisinde ilk kez Apollonia ismi ile kurulmuş ve kısa bir dönem Antoniopolis olarak da anılmıştır. MÖ 1. yüzyıla tarihlenen şehir sikkeleri ve epigrafik kaynaklarda kentin ismi Tripolis olarak geçer. Üç küçük topluluğun ya da yerleşimin bir araya getirilmesiyle bir kent/polis meydana getirilerek (synoikismos) Tripolis adı verilmiştir. Tripolis ismi MS 7. yüzyılda kent terk edilene kadar varlığını korumuştur. Her ne kadar Tripolis'in bir kent olarak geçmişi Helenistik Dönem'e dayansa da kentin çevresinde gerçekleştirilen yüzey araştırmalarında elde edilen arkeolojik materyal bu bölgedeki yerleşimin günümüzden 6000 yıl öncesine kadar gittiğini kanıtlamaktadır. Tripolis'in de içinde bulunduğu Çürüksu Vadisi MÖ 190 yılında Seleukoslar ile Bergama Krallığı arasında yapılan Magnesia Savaşı'na kadar bağımsız kentlerden oluşur. Bu savaşı, Roma desteğinde kazanan Bergama Krallığı, MÖ 188 yılında imzalanan Apameia Barışı ile bölge yönetimini ele almıştır. III. Attalos'un MÖ 133 yılında ölümünden sonra vasiyeti üzerine, bölge Roma İmparatorluğu'na bağlanmıştır.

Hidden gem in between villages. Tripolis provides guests with a lot to look at. Thanks to the, still ongoing, reconstructions. Walk through the old streets, have a look into the remote church and even make a little break at the elevation with an astonishing panorama-view. If you're near Denizli/Aydın then plan a day-vacation! Besides, entree is free and you'll even be escorted by a companion. The cute dog will follow you and is more than happy to get some pets on his head.
