The total length of the Oylat cave, consisting of two interconnected floors, is 665 meters. The cave, which has a meandered profile in general, can be divided into two sections according to its development features. The section from the entrance to the large depression hall consists of narrow galleries. The ceiling height of this section, which is between 2-5 meters wide, is approximately 15 meters. Giant cauldron and dripstone pools occupy a large place here. There are also four to five meter thick pebble tanks (in the shape of a terrace) and polished surfaces underneath them. On the other hand, the second part of the cave consists of a large depression hall. The width of this hall, which has a huge elevation difference of 93 meters between its beginning and end point, is 25-55 meters and the ceiling height varies between 3-15 meters. The upper section of the hall, which consists of large blocks and giant dripstone shapes (stalactites, stalagmites and columns), consists of thick gravel, sand and shaft layers. A rich living community lives in the Oylat cave, which consists of sections with different development and meteorological features. These include bats, millipedes, butterflies, worms, and guanobies. There is a sensible wind in the narrow gallery and passageways connecting the halls and floors in the cave.Oylat cave is located at the point where Oylat canyon ends, 1 km south of Hilmiye village, 17 km southeast of İnegöl. You can go to the cave by any road from İnegöl-Ankara highway to the Oylata spa.
Read moreThe Oylat cave is a nice addition to my visit to Türkiye and something different of what normally would be on list of a tourist. It’s located between Inegol and Bozuyuk and several KMs south of the town of Gunduzlu. It’s worth the trip if you travelling by car and happened to be in the area. The cave is a beautiful formation that takes you hundreds of meters inside the mountain and tens of meters above the main entrance level. It’s said that the cave has multiple entrances but only the main entrance is accessible and I was not able to see if there were any intersections of the other entrances from within the cave. The cave has 2 interconnected levels. I was able to reach one of the levels during this visit. I could not reach the other level because there was no lighting beyond the highest point I could reach and I was not adventurous enough to take the risk of continuing. The cave temperature was cooler than outside and it got cooler and a lot damper as I moved into the depths of the cave. The air has a musty smell and inhabited by bats. During my visit heard what sounded like bats in middle area of the cave but couldn’t see any. Moving through the cave is possible by the metal steps and trails constructed...
