Patara Beach — Attraction in Kaş

The best beach in Turkey. Clean, sandy and away from everything as it’s located in the national park so all kinds of business are forbidden there. Few things you need to know before you go:

☀️It’s very sunny and hot there. There are no shadow options there. It’s like a desert with dunes.

🅿️&🏖It's about 500m through the dunes from the parking area to the sea. It takes about 10 minutes to go down to the sea and 15-20 minutes to climb back to the parking. Parking is free on the Patara observation deck.

💧Food and water: bring everything you need(especially water). In the nearby village, there are some cafes but the quality is not ok. Their business is a one-time visit so that they don’t care about quality.

🚘Road: 99% of the road from Fethiye or Kaś is a high-quality highway. The last mile is a dirt road strewn with stones. It’s not a problem for any car.

🌊Sea: in most cases it’s calm. You need to walk about 50m to reach depths of 2m. Note that seaweed may colour water in hot summer months.

⏱Time to visit: you need a full day. Sunsets are stunning. It's not a big problem if you climb back to the parking area after the sunset but you need to save your parking location 📍 and have enough battery.

Animals: there are no animals that can be dangerous.

🩴👟Cloth and shoes: you need cloth which fully covers your body as there are no shadow on the beach. It's crucial to wear shoes that can protect your feet against extremely hot 🔥 sand when you climb through dunes. It can be hot even under the ground.

Talked into it by our holiday rep who waxed lyrical about it being listed as one of the world's most beautiful beaches. Our Adda Tours cars duly arrived at the appointed 10:00am, and whisked us 15 minutes later to the entrance where we parted with another 7.5 TL to access the beach area. There was another more expensive option to visit the ruins, but in 35 degree heat, we declined the offer. Lets just say, if you love sandy beaches and warm shallow waters, you'll probably feel right at home. What we couldn't excuse was paying another 15 TL for two hard plastic loungers and a parasol. After less than 10 minutes attempting to get comfortable we gave up and headed for the only cafe area on the beach. Think school cafeteria with more uncomfortable wooden seating and the most miserable looking bunch of waiters. Our allotted pick up time of 4:00pm couldn't have come any sooner and thank God he was on time. To be fair, the place was packed when we left, with people still coming in. Having visited some really stunning beaches from Sydney to Cornwall...this doesn't even come close. Very disappointed as we could have chosen to return to the Indigo Beach Club, just down the road, with better views, better facilities,and lunch thrown in for the same money. And very, very...

Patara is a very wide stretched sand beach.

We entered the beach through the eastern access road. Because there is a historic site near by you have to pay entrance here. Additionally there is the fee for the sunbed and umbrella. We were 5 adults and all together the price is too high to go there frequently.

Maybe its possible to access the beach in the middle or on the very western end without being charged but we did not try.

However the most disappointing for us was how extremely dirty the beach was. Plastic rubbish and cigarettes all over the place. You have to keep in mind that there are turtles breeding on this beach and there are even signs that point it out with rules for the visitors to obey.

For me it's unbelievable how you cannot keep such a beautiful beach clean then. It's a shame.

Note: this review only applies for the eastern part of the beach where the restaurant is located as well as the sun beds. I cannot say if the beach is clean in the middle or the western side as we did not visit those parts (beach is...
