Nice circuit, but absolutely not suitable for F1 races or any other race where large amounts of spectators are expected. Due to the infrastructure of roads to the circuit, it is almost unreachable. A complete traffic infarct going to and from the circuit. Accessing road has a 3 - 3 layout. Why not change this to 5-1 on way in and after the race covert this to 5-1 on the way out? When leaving the circuit, pedestrians are expected to exit through a small gate (1,5 m wide). Getting 10's of thousands people through this small exit gives again a huge problem (see photo). I was not surprised people were destroying the fences to force an exit to enlarge the capacity. There were shuttle buses available going to metro stations. However these buses (some hundred) had to leave the bus station on 1 lane. Except for being crammed full, it took at least an hour to exit the bus station. Going to, right, the same crammed road. Why not make special bus lanes to ensure traffic flow? Anyhow, I am surprised FIA does not take the accessibility into account when granting an accreditation. Based on the chaotic traffic management I think they should not be allowed to organize a F1 race without optimizing traffic...
Read moreThis is a fairly late review that I never posted until now. I was at the track for the Turkish GP on 8-9-10 October 2021. I drove from Şişli on all days, every morning at 7:30-8:00 AM, to be by the track when it opened to enjoy the Fanzone.
However, due to poor management by Intercity Park and local authorities, entering or exiting the track was a mess and nothing but short of a disaster. Getting to the Fanzone from Silver Category 6 was disastrous, especially on race day. The food prices were insanely marked up and lacking.
The race was enjoyable, as Istanbul Park is an iconic track. However, the big screens were barely visible and there was little to no cell reception, making you guess what lap you were on, who pitted, etc.
Exiting the track on Sunday was a total nightmare. I got in my car around 18:00 and it took me 5 hours to return to Şişli.
The track itself is great, but the management and organizers...
Read moreVery nice track layout, but very poor organisation. Every single visitor had to enter the venue via the same bridge and later a single door. We are talking about 200 thousand people, forget covid standards. Also there were HUGE traffic jams which the police not only didn't help to eliminate but even closed nearby roads to force everyone to take the same road. Further than that after entering the venue there was a ring road around the track in which buses took people from the main (and only gate) to let them somewhere close to their seats. Whose idea was to have parking holders have access to this road? The bus took an hour to circle the track! It was pointless. Buses going to and leaving from the track as well as those in the venue should have priority! A bus takes 100 people and a car a maximum of 5, these are the basics of setting...
