By far the best beach I've come across in Panama. To truly enjoy its beauty, I recommend arriving later in the afternoon, after the tourists have already left. This will be a bit of a challenge, since you'll have to drive yourself and find someone to take you there on a boat. The best spot to arrive is behind the police station. There's several locals there that can take you to Playa Blanca for $25/person on their dinghy and pick you up later. You may also opt for a tour of Venas Azules and Tunnel de Amor if you won't be returning to Colon again. If you continue past the police station, the road gets extremely rough with hidden speed bumps, so I don't recommend it. Once you arrive at Playa Blanca, it will all be worth it. You will find a pristine white sandy beach, with perfectly clear water and no rocks. There's monkeys in the trees and some stray dogs that have the cutest personalities. You can go through a path to reach an even more private beach next to the mangrove. That part of the beach is completely untouched. You can see fish swimming with your naked eye. We even spotted a snake in a swamp behind it. That wasn't our thing, but it may be yours. If you're arriving late, the few shack restaurants there will likely be closed. The beach will be abandoned since there's no road access to it. The food isn't that great anyway so you aren't missing much. Just bring your own food or stop by the McDonald's in Colon en route. There's also no cell phone reception, so your life is in the hands of a local you just met. If he doesn't return, you have the night to reflect on the decisions that led you to this situation. Starting with this post that told you to go when everyone has already left. But if he does return, you'll catch the most beautiful sunset as you ride out of paradise. I can't recommend Playa Blanca enough. Just make sure you're going to the one in Colon, and not the Pacific.

It still has the feeling of a deserted virgin Island. Even though when we were there, there were a lot of people. The jungle is very close to the sand, which is part of this beach beauty. Make sure to bring all that you would need in the day. There is no place to buy anything on site. From Portobello is short 20 min boat ride, cost around $10 -15. We use the services from la morada de la bruja.

One of the most famous beaches in Colon. You can make it here by getting a boat at Portobelo, it will take about 25 minutes to get here once you leave Portobelo. Bring ice chest, an umbrella and petate. There are some small restaurants but recommend bringing your own snacks specially if doing on weekdays. Traffic at Sabanitas gets awful, plan ahead to pass before 6AM and 3PM.
