Well worth the visit.
We drove to the top of the falls, where we had a guide take us to the different viewpoints. The walk was easy going - a few steep ups & downs, but it wasn't too long. Our guide was good, and had some interesting information about the area & the falls. The viewpoints give you some great views looking back over the falls, and then you can walk to the top of the falls themselves. Here you really get to experience them - the sound of crashing water, the huge waves, and the power of all this water flowing down a narrow passage. It's a good spot to sit for a while & take it all in.
Due to our itinerary, we drove to the Parra Ferry Corssing the following day where the Murchison Falls boat trips start. We were on one of the larger boats (there were many different shapes and sizes). It was slow-going upstream, but this gave you time to take in the views - plenty of elephants, hippos, crocs, kingfishers, and bee-eaters along the way. They had a bar on the boat with various drinks for sale.
The boat cruise takes you to the bottom of the falls, although you do not get close to them. From this point, you can do a walk up to the top of the falls, and either drive back from the parking lot (if you'd arranged that with your driver), or catch a later boat cruise back to the Parra Ferry Crossing. BE SURE YOU GET ONTO THE CORRECT BOAT when heading back to Parra - a family climbed onto our boat after their walk, not realizing it was owned by a different company, so they were charged a second time for the trip. The boat trip back is quicker, as you're now traveling downstream.
Overall, the boat trip was worth it, and had some great sights, but if you're limited for time, you want to head straight to the top...
