Mpanga Nature Center — Attraction in Mpigi

Hidden gem! Big, dense, pristine rainforest with an expansive network of trails with very knowledgeable and professional guides. They have a kitchen and accommodation, and many other small projects alongside the forest. You can do birding (200+ species), hiking, cycling, etc. Bring proper hiking boots as the trails can be rough and wet (some Nile tributaries run through the forest) We sadly only had time for a short guided hike @ $15/person, but they have longer ones as well (12.5km; 4 hours). Sheer delight, I tell you! I was immediately captured by the bird songs. I still hear them sing in my mind when I recall my visit to the camping site. I loved the gentle mix between the built and natural environments and was honored to meet the man behind the dream and hearing about his love (and knowledge) of nature. I'm definitely planning many many forest walks in the future....
