In 2008, Synevyr Lake was denominated as one the Seventh Natural Wonders of Ukraine. This fact is important to highlight, because if nature amenities are regarded as a wonder of the entire nation, they should be treated accordingly. The good thing is that infrastructure, namely carriageways, are being improved (I hope they don't comply with the well-established Ukrainian tradition, which is repairing roads when it is raining or immediately after rain). Although the roads of the Synevyr National Park are in satisfactory condition (except some of carriageways, which I hope will be fixed soon), all the ways leading to the park are as terrible as elsewhere in Ukraine. Here is the lesson to learn, my dear readers: wanna savor Synevyr and don't spoil your impression about the park beforehand, you had better buy a bus ticket or rent a car. If you are a lucky owner of a high quality SUV, then give it a go. Let's talk about the lake itself. It is definitely beautiful. It is also the largest lake in the entire Carpathian Mountains. There is a walkway around the lake, which branches off routes for hiking. If a heavy hiking backpack doesn't make your knees buckle, then just walk around the lake and enjoy heavily ionized air. On the shoulders of the walkway are vendors selling honey of various flavors and ingredients inside. You can find a pine needles or tiny pine branches inside small glass jars. I can't guarantee those vendors sell organic honey. If you somehow find out it is not real honey in the jar you have bought, then don't get sad. You can add that sugar syrup to sweeten your tea or coffee or whatever you like. I assume you would like to ask me: all right, roads and walkways, that's clear, but what about the Lake itself? Truly, it is just a lake. It is plain water. It is tons of mud sucking your feet. By the way, I have a mixed feeling about treading on this swampy surface. On the one hand, it feels good when mud and clay and whatever chemical compound the Mother Nature has added there stick to your feet. It is relaxing. On the other hand, you can't be sure that that stupid-looking scumbag who has just walked off the shore hasn't accidentally on purpose smashed a glass beer bottle and buried in the mud. This is the reason you should be shod. Moreover, it is forbidden to swim in the Lake, so the treat of cutting your foot and catching infection is neutralized. In general, I would like to pay another visit to the Lake. It is truly great there. Mountains and tall pine trees towering over the Lake stir up the feeling of pacification and restores the...
Read moreNature is amazing there. Definitely you should walk around this lake. There are few spots for amazing shots.
Below you could find few facts about lake.
According to infrastructure it could be better, it looks ok as for Ukraine, but it is far behind compare to parks infrastructure in US. We didn’t find any public restroom there. On a way up to the lake we were bothered by cars going up and down. And crazy souvenir market by the lake spoiled a bit feeling of nature.
P.S. at the entrance to the park do not forget to ask for receipt.
Some facts about lake:
Lake Synevyr is the largest lake in the Carpathian Mountains of Ukraine. Scientists estimate that the lake formed about ten thousand years ago.
The water level in the basin constantly changes: it increases during rain showers and intensive snow thaw, and decreases during winter and the dry season. As a result, the lake's water level fluctuates by 4 to 4.5 meters, its area varies between 4.5 and 7.5 ha, and its maximum depth varies between 18 and...
