Best nature friendly beach in UAE , BBQ ,camping available (payable)
The Mangrove Beach is located at Khor Al Yifrah in Umm Al Quwain. It is the first project in the United Arab Emirates that has been initiated to promote ecotourism and the importance of mangroves for our ecosystem.
The UAE has around 60 million mangrove forests covering 184 square kilometers, and together, these mangroves use up to 45,000 tonnes of CO2 per year. The Mangrove Beach is just a tiny part of this massive forest.
In addition to purifying the air, the forest protects the coast from storms and rising sea levels. They are also home to hundreds of aquatic animals, birds, and plants.
Explore the Forest
If you are a nature lover and want to blend in with nature, then there is no better place in the UAE than Mangrove Beach, Umm Al Quwain. The green mangrove forest around the beach is just irresistible.
Here you will also come across several species of aquatic animals, plants, and terrestrial animals. In short, the lush green forest is a treat for your eyes.
In the early morning, you can also take a stroll with your family or loved ones. As it is less crowded in the morning, you can walk peacefully amongst nature and listen to the sound of exotic birds and waves crashing on the beach.
Camping
The beach and the forest area are perfect camping spots. The low waves and the soft sand beneath will offer the ultimate comfort and peace.
Picnic Spot
We all enjoy a nice little picnic on the beach, right? Well, at the Mangrove Beach in Umm Al Quwain, you can enjoy the same kind of enjoyment away from the city’s noise.
Just like any other coastal place, the temperature at night gets really low; therefore, you must carry blankets, dry food, and a first aid kit. There is a particular spot on the beach for a barbecue where you can rent a grill or directly buy barbecued meat from the vendors.
At night, neon lights and solar-powered street lights light up the beach. Here, you can also enjoy other activities like astronomy and stargazing. The place also has a community area, a couple of saloons, cafes, and a barbershop.
Water Sports
The beach is also popular due to a variety of water sports activities. Once you are near the beach, do not miss out on water sports, especially kayaking.
Apart from that, with the UAQ marine membership, you can also enjoy other water adventure sports like surfing, a banana boat ride, knee boarding, windsurfing, wakeboarding, SUP, water skiing, canoeing, etc.
Visit Siniya Island
Here you can also visit the oldest island in the UAE, Siniya Island. This eight-kilometer-long green island offers breathtaking views, along with an insight into the history of the Emirates and its natural beauty.
The early residents of Umm Al Quwain first arrived here 200 years ago before moving to the mainland. The Siniya Islands are well known for their flora and fauna, mangroves, ghaf trees, desert, etc. The island has 65 archaeological sites, including prehistoric towers, structural remains of palaces, huts, and tombs.
If you are lucky, you can spot exotic wild animals and birds like the Arabian gazelle or the...
Read moreDecember 4 2020 National day holiday. We decided to go to the mangroves.
This place is now officially named as “The Mangrove Beach” and there is an entrance fee. The guy at the gate told us for 20 bucks you can spend the entire day inside. We paid up and we were in. I noticed goal posts, a play area for the kids, some people had put up tents and some had caravans. A good initiative by the government. I can feel this place is going to become popular. This is a recent development so there might be more changes to come.
So we looked for a spot and parked between two Caravans. This place is an open ground surrounded by water. There is no shade to sit under so if you are planning to spend the entire day you would either need a beach umbrella or a tent. Anything to provide some shade. So we setup with tents, barbeque and all.
Sometime later… and this is when things got interesting and not in a good way. A person approached us to inform us of a charge of 200 for placing tents on the ground. Since we were already setup we decided to pay. Guess what happens next. He tells us the spot is already booked so we have to move to another spot. It was inconvenient but we agreed to move and asked him for some time to pack up everything. I understand these things can happen. Few minutes later a black jeep approaches us. This guy looked angry, he was from the tourism department. He made some hand gestures from this car. I approached him and informed him that we are almost packed and should be ready to leave in a few minutes. This is how the dialog went.
Official – This place is for camping only (said in a stern voice)
Me – We were camping as well.
Official – Did you register? (stern voice again.)
Me – We were not informed at the gate. (He responded before I could finish.)
Official – You should ask. (Very stern)
Me – How will I know there is more? The guy at the gate only told us about the entrance ticket. (Again he did not wait for me to finish.)
Official – You should ask. (Louder this time.)
This went on for a while. His body language and tone of voice was clearly condescending. Before leaving he said I will see you at the gate. True to his word he made us wait there for 10 minutes before he opened the gate but that was not enough. He made us pull over and park on the side for another few minutes.
Bottom line is make sure you ask for all the details at the gate as there were no sign boards or pricing and registration details mentioned anywhere as of 4th December 2020. This is a nice place to camp or hangout. Although Qudra Lake is much better and free. Let’s just hope no one gets to face this man (ever). That should vastly improve the...
