One of the highlights of Buhais Geology Park is the trail, which is only accessible during the daytime. The trail offers a fantastic opportunity to experience the outdoor beauty of the area, walk through rugged terrain, and see some of the oldest rocks and geological structures in the region. 🌄 My recommendation is to come early in the day to make the most of this experience, as the morning light truly brings out the best of the scenic landscapes. 🌞

Buhais Geological Park, located about 48 km southeast of Sharjah near Al Madam, is an outstanding destination for nature and history lovers. Opened in 2020, the park showcases the region’s rich geological and archaeological heritage, dating back over 65 million years. It features an impressive Interpretive Centre made up of five dome-shaped structures designed to resemble fossilised sea urchins, blending beautifully into the rocky desert landscape.

Inside, the pods host interactive exhibits that explain the earth's processes like plate tectonics, sedimentation, and fossil formation. Real fossils, ancient burial artifacts, and engaging models help visitors understand the history of the region in a hands-on, visual way. A short educational film called “Sharjah Heritage Treasure” adds to the experience, making it perfect for both adults and children.

The park also includes an outdoor trail that takes you past ancient tombs and natural rock formations. Raised walkways and viewing decks offer beautiful desert views and protect the environment from damage. There are shaded areas, resting points, and educational signs along the route.

Facilities include a café with panoramic views of Jebel Buhais, a gift shop, prayer rooms, lockers, and a discovery area for kids. Most areas are wheelchair accessible. The entry fee is AED 10.50 for adults, while children under 12 can enter for free.

Our group of about ~20 people had a blast! A great experience for the outdoor lover who wants a more authentic landscape experience away from the big city!

Posting as a geologist — one of my favorite geological exhibits ever. It is only about an hour from Dubai, and it was a great (and much needed dive) into some natural landscapes outside of the city.

The museum is really beautiful— it looks like something futuristic and out of Star Wars, tastefully done in a way that works nicely with the landscape. The staff was very kind and welcoming. Parking was also easy.

This is an INDOOR and OUTDOOR museum. The indoor bit is very comfortable, and even has a nice cafe and gift shop. The outdoor bit is delightful, but I do recommend walking shoes, sunscreen, and a hat to fully enjoy the desert.

The geologic story was wonderfully presented both inside and outside (via signs)— & I strongly recommend you SEE THE WELCOME VIDEO IN THE THEATRE FIRST.

I also really liked how they also featured cultural and archaeological features. They had a special celebration for National Day with traditional foods, gifts, and crafts. It was a lot of fun. They had a traditional tent to sit outside, which was AMAZING after a long day of walking. I hope that is there full time!

For those with limited mobility— they did offer golf cart rides for parts of the outdoor section.

The only improvements I could think of are: — UNPAVED/ natural hiking trails (with a map) for an extra authentic experience — expanding the gift shop’s offerings to include more culturally relevant offerings, as well as geologic books
