Hili Archaeological Park Hili Archaeological Park is one of the best-known archaeological sites in the United Arab Emirates. The park is part of the Hili Cultural Site and part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Al Ain. It contains Bronze Age (3000-1300 BCE) and Iron Age (1300-300 BCE) villages, burial grounds, and agricultural infrastructure. In the period between 2500 and 2000 BCE, the settlement at Hili expanded. This period is called the ‘Umm an-Nar’ period after the island off the coast of Abu Dhabi where remains of this culture were first found. Hilli Site 1 Next to the Grand Tomb is Hili Site 1, once a tower built from mud bricks that would have stood several metres high. When it was excavated in the 1960s by Danish archaeologists at the invitation of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Founding Father of the United Arab Emirates, the tower was found to have a thick circular wall, within which were several rooms, served by a well in the centre. Only the foundations of this building remain today. Hili 10 settlement A similar structure, Hili 10, is located nearby and also has a central well. Its three-metre-wide circular wall suggests that it was once a stronghold, perhaps controlling trade routes across the region. It was first built during the Bronze age (3000-1300 BCE) and re occupied in Iron age. Tomb E and N These circular tombs are from Umm an-Nar’ period Grand Tomb Part pf UNESCO World Heritage listing, Hili Grand Tomb, dates about 2000 BCE (Bronze age). Built in a circular form with a diameter of up to 12 metres, and approximately 4 metres high, the tomb was used by people from Umm an-Nar culture to bury people from surrounding settlements. The tomb has two entrances decorated with beautifully engraved reliefs portraying human and oryx antelope figures.

I had a chance to visit the place just by chance. We were in AL AIN last day and already had a plan of cooking in the evening before returning to Ajman, so i just tried to find some random spots in AL AIN for BBQ. And i chose this spot to try out. The management of Hili archeological park really deserves appreciation for providing and maintaining all the facilities. Drinking water is available, very clean and well maintained washrooms, perfect green grass all over the park, very beautiful green trees all around the park that gives you vibes of you being roaming in a beautiful garden. They have BBQ and cooking dedicated spots, where you can cook, even tables are there to sit and eat, no need to bring your BBQ/ cooking stands. The place is amazing and perfect for families. And it will surprise you that all such perfect arrangements for the public are free, no ticket.

More of a "park with some archaeology" than an archaeology park. It's a beautiful, lush green space with plenty of amenities, like a cafe (closed during my mid-August visit), ball courts, and clean bathrooms. But I came to see the archaeology! The park map outlines the several archaeological sites nicely. About three of those sites have some worthwhile signs explaining what you're looking at and what its significance is, which was great. They're partially or fully reconstructed to give an idea of what they originally looked like. Some were dwellings and others tombs. The other sites are essentially just fenced off areas with no signs or explanations, which look very poorly cared for -- irrigation pipes and light poles clearly visible inside the site. I'm attaching photos of each of the archaeological sites.

Hili Archaeological Park is an amazing combination of archaeological sites and a park for walking. Perfectly clean green park, in which some archaeological sites are located in open access. One of the main monuments is the Great Tomb in Hili. Her age is more than 4000 years, diameter is 12 meters, and height is not less than 4 meters. In the mid-1970s, it was restored. In ancient times it was covered with a roof. Next to the Great Tomb is the site of Hili 1, once upon a time there was a tower of clay brick, the height of which would be several meters. It was excavated in the 1960s by Danish archaeologists. A thick round wall was discovered, inside which there were several rooms, in the center of which was a well. Today we can only see the foundation of this building. All structures found in Healy are dated back to 3000 BC....
