This is a great visitor attraction that has something for just about everyone. Newly opened after needing to remove infected trees and closure during the pandemic a great deal of effort has been made to revitalise the forest.

Highlights include:

Take a tour around the whole forest by car and stop at the many sights along the way. This is a well designed and easy to navigate route. Has a charge for each vehicle.

Take a walk along one of the many forest routes from the visitor centre. These range from the easy to the challenging.

Bring a mountain bike and take one of the specially designed trails through the forest.

Each of the well maintained stop points through the forest has been designed to appeal to a wide range of tastes. There are information boards and installations to see. The forest has several playgrounds, small to large, and each area has toilet facilities suitable to all persons and created to work with the environment.

The area is rich in history and this is captured on the information screens. There is also an iron age fort at the top of a hill with amazing views. The forest views are stunning and include views that go around 360 degrees of terrain, you can even see across the distant Bristol Channel to the shores of england.

The modern visitor centre and cafe has a wide range of books and information, tea, coffee, cakes, ice cream, drinks and snacks.

A brilliant attraction that will only improve...

Beautiful forest to visit with lots of walking and bike trails suitable for different abilities, lots of places to stop and have a picnic. There are decent parks for children about and some BBQ areas by the lake, they get pretty busy in the summer though. We go on an almost weekly basis in all weathers, as children and dogs enjoy. They've done lot's to try and make the lower part accessible.

The cafe is rather poor, friendly staff and dog friendly with lots of indoor and outdoor seating. But coffee is average and the menu pretty limited, we only ever get breakfast (which they seem to have stopped doing) or chips (honestly why they don't do a proper freshly made healthy menu given the number of people there to exercise!) when busy can talk a while to receive your order, card machine is often not working so take cash.

The Drive is pretty good value at present (Β£8) but probably not worth it when they raise the prices soo., You can easily make a day of it as there are various car parks, most with toilet facilities, all with good views, different walks and a few parks and picnic/BBQ areas, but note that the opening hours aren't that late, also if you plan on visiting in winter always check prior as I've arrived several times after it was due to open and found that it's been closed and not yet stated on...

I discovered this little gem after being informed about it by a friend. This seems to be a particular hotspot for mountain bikers and people looking to get a good sweat on a hike. There is plenty of parking and you will pay Β£1 for two hours or Β£3 for an all day parking. I understand if you wish to do the drive through the forest that would cost Β£10 per car. There are three mountain bike trails and there are three hiking trails. We decided to follow the hiking trail called Twmbarlum. We went to the business centre to ask if they had a copy of a map that we could use. The map was a very poorly photocopied version and if I’m honest offered very little help. It was more frustrating was the fact that the roots to the mountain were not well signed posted so it resulted in a few u- turns I’m trying to ask other people for directions. However, despite the lack of good clear directions from the map or from the signage we were able to find our way to the top of the mountain and taking the historic fort. The views from the top of the mountain were phenomenal with clear visibility of Flat Holm and Steep Holm, the Severn Bridge and the Millennium Stadium. It seems that there are much larger hikes that you can do here but we opted for this one and it took us just over two hours to complete.
