With the obvious exceptions of major bank holidays, this beach offers almost a mile of soft clean sand pretty much all to yourself most of the time. And with a spectacular backdrop of the Llyn Peninsular peaks, it is the perfect location to enjoy picturesque tranquillity.

There are no facilities whatsoever. And with the nearest parking being at the nearby village of Aberffraw approximately 15 minutes walk away, It tends to deter the crowds of trippers which most of the other local beaches attract. But with scenery like this who needs ice cream or chips?! And of course the long walk to the beach deters people with small children.

I enjoy this perfect location all year round. From heavy winter storms to summer heat waves and flat calms. If you are looking for peace and quiet you'll find it here. Here is a picture taken on a recent August bank holiday. Kind of...

Today I decided to walk, once again, along one of my favourite Anglesey / Ynys Mon beaches. I walked to the sea front beach peninsula of Traeth Mawr and came back again (in about 1 hour), through the lovely sand-dunes.

The beach / village area of Aberffraw has a proud and prestigious past history, of it's overall importance as the administrative centre for the kings and princes, not just of Anglesey, but for the whole of North Wales. For some 800 years, Welsh Kings and Princes used the royal palace at Aberffraw as a base in their fight against invasions from the Irish, Saxons, Vikings and finally the Normans. Today a Museum and Cafe highlights this history. :)

Indeed, I feel that we are all, 'Only footprints in the sands of, maybe, Aberffraw.....?!!' A very special place to me, my family and close friends..... :) I hope you enjoy the magic of Aberffraw...

Oh God....

It's a horrible place. You wouldn't enjoy it. It's thoroughly nasty. It's Soooo.....boring. You'd hate it. It smells.

Go anywhere else, you will enjoy that. Go to Benidorm, you'll like it there, it's stinking hot, they serve Fosters down the mains and rice with everything and the streets are paved with...concrete....Oh and the weather is always garbage in Wales, everybody knows that. Go to Praia Da Luz...loads of interesting stuff goes on there. Go to EyeBeefa, that's great an' all! Go to Saint Tropez...you can paint yourself orange in the morning, flounce about with your handbag dog in high heels P.M. darling... properly, there!

Will you people stop...

The best beach on the island. Park on the left of the main road and walk along the left side of the little estuary, after a few minutes you will the most beautiful beach. It’s ideal for kites, dogs and families. The see is shallow but be careful as there can be a rip on the right hand side of the beach. A walk to the end of the beach and back to the car is about 6k . Thousands of crabs, dead or alive, and very sandy. The cafe in the village is also fanatic for a drink and the loo afterwards
