Absolutely great day out. Do not miss it. We arrived at 11am and left at 4pm. Lots to see. Guides are there to tell you more and for you to ask questions. The animals are out working at different times, for example the Shire horses work in the morning and they get to go in and rest for a few hours. The forge was working all day. Tom was a super guy. He told us all about being a farrier and horse shoes are like human shoes, specific to each foot, who knew! The animals are brilliant and well cared for. Piglets were born last week and we were able to get quite close. Goats were my favourite. You will want walking shoes or boots. Wellies for kids. Take a picnic but although the school house cafe was closed, an improvised barbecue was available in the covered picnic area. Allergies are catered for. My husband uses a wheelchair so we hired their Tramper for the day. Book in advance for this. No charge...
Read moreWe obviously heard about this place because of the TV series, so though we'd check it out. To be fair we didn't have high expectations and those expectations were spot on. There's not a great deal to see or do really. Not sure if we just went on a quiet day (mid week in early may), so we didn't stay for that long. You can spend 2 or 3 hrs here, if you stop for some lunch in the old schoolhouse (which does some nice food, but is a little pricey... Tourist pricing rather than comparable to the area). The staff are friendly and knowledgeable (sorry, you won't see any TV stars working there).. and if you're lucky they may be feeding the lambs or ducklings/chics. We got to feed a lamb and hold some of the chics and ducklings, and in one of the cottages they had a couple in Victorian clothing making some kind of pancakes that farm workers often took with them.. they were generous with the...
Read moreThis place was just amazing. It cost us £25 for a family of 4 and it was worth every penny. Both my children aged 4 and 8 were involved in the activities and the staff were amazing. I held a duck and chick and the staff encouraged both my children to have a touch so they can get used to it and build their confidence. My children fed lambs and had a go at sitting on the horses. There was plenty to see and open fields with chickens running around for the children to play. We had a cuppa in the tea room which was lovely and suitable for children. There was an outside park and benches to make the most of this nice weather. I haven't been before but I would go back!! It was simply a very good family day out!...
