CORNWALL COUNCIL wants all their lovely out of county visitors, coming too Whitsand Bay to have a lovely time and then for it to be tarnished when they return to their car. As they find where they/you, parked the car inocently has been ticketed. This has not happened to me, but I'm aware of their money racket and seen too many times as a regular visitor to the amazing beach, it really saddens me that so many families each day during the summer, over the past couple of years, will unknowingly full for this scam. Why is it a scam, because the signage is almost non existent to warn folk and if you expect double yellow lines think again. Now I did say there was signage... As you pull onto Military Road, when the kids in the back are getting all excited because they can see the shiny blue sea and gassing about the amazing fun that they are going to have. You know that moment. At this point there is a no parking symbol sign. No words, no more signage after to warn tourist. So you missed it, this is 100% your fault and you will pay for it because then you see a space off road. Your not causing any obstruction when you park, 2 busses could pass by your car, which is a miracle on Cornish lanes, but you park and one tire is touching the tarmac and many other cars are doing the same. I would say you are 100% guaranteed to get a ticket with this scenario. So thank you for reading this long post but please tell/share too others, to warn them not to be caught out, so their day doesn't get spoilt and I'm sure Cornwall council will be over the moon because tourist are aware of the no parking situation and they don't have too paint any expensive...

If you want a big Cornish beach that is rarely crowded, even in the summer, this is it.

The price you pay for this rare item is the very steep, winding, path that goes down to it. It really isn't for people who have any difficulty walking.

It's recently been renovated, but there are still big steps to negotiate.

Also, there is military firing range alongside the path. When this is in use access is (not unreasonably) closed off. You can look these times up online.

Parking is also difficult to obtain.

All of these things combine to discourage people visiting and making it the least crowded beach in summer in the West Country.

Towards the far end, there is a traditional, informal, naturist area, which can take people aback is the are not aware.

It's sandy sand, not gravel so, if you like beaches, there's nothing not to like - except the slog back to...

This delightful stretch of beach is the westerly end of Whitsand Bay that stretches all the way from Polhawn Cove next to Rame Head, all the way to Finnygook Beach at Portwrinkle, a distance of over 7.2kms. This stretch of beach runs from Oldhouse Cove, accessed from Portwrinkle, to Sharrow Beach which is over Long Sands at low water from Tregantle Beach 2.2kms in length is either referred to as Long Sands or Tregantle Beach. Locally Tregantle Beach is known as the area of beach below Tregantle Cliff and the access point, and the westerly part as Long Sands. Much of the beach is part of a MOD Training area which involves live firing and at such times there is no public access; there are notices displaying times at the gate entrance to MOD property on the...

There is a steep path down to the beach, and pay and display parking is available at the top of the road. Warnings are down the road.. If your wheels touch the tarmac on the road you could get a fine. As a dog owner it's great to be able to go to a dog friendly beach. The dog owners that do not scoop the poop are shameless. Just cannot understand this lazy careless behaviour. Bins are provided. Why why why? There are little children in flip flops. Please don't give dog owners a bad name. You're pet deserves better than that surely. It takes seconds to pick it up. If you really do love your dog... prove it!

If you time your visit as the tide is going out you won't regret it. The beach is huge with so many little rock pools to explore. Life guards are posted on the beach at peak times and during tourist season so you can feel safe on the beach and in the water. Jellyfish are present so keep an eye out, the lifeguards will direct you on what to do if you are stung but it isn't as bad a sting as you might think. Tregantle is a dog friendly beach as long as you make sure you clean up after those pooches and don't let them cause mayhem amongst visitors.
