Horseshoe Lake Activity Centre: A Pawsitively Wonderful Day on the Water
I recently had the pleasure of visiting Horseshoe Lake Activity Centre and it was an absolute gem! The staff, led by the incredibly friendly and accommodating Paul, went above and beyond to make my day unforgettable. Despite my late arrival for the last session of the day. From the moment I arrived, I felt welcomed and well-cared for. The team provided everything I needed to hit the water and have a blast, ensuring a safe and hassle-free experience. He even offered to delay the end of the session to give me more time on the water. One of the highlights was Paul's kindness in arranging for a colleague to bring his phone from the office to the boat. He then took the time to capture a series of amazing photos, which he later sent to me, creating lasting memories of my adventure with my beloved dog, Xena Warrior Princess. I'm so grateful to Paul and his colleagues for making my last road trip with my dog so special. Their dedication to providing exceptional service made all the difference. If you're looking for a fun and memorable day out on the water, I highly recommend Horseshoe Lake Activity Centre. You won't be disappointed! I will certainly be...
Read moreI first visited Horseshoe Lake in August 2019 while training for the Windermere One Way; visiting this picturesque lake for another swim was a pleasure.
Horseshoe Lake is located in a quiet and beautiful part of Berkshire, near the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst; it's worth checking out their website to find their exact address.
There is parking at Horseshoe Lake; however, it can get busy, it's worth planning your visit before you go. I can't recall any dedicated disabled parking; I sometimes have to make do when I visit.
The lake offers three distances a 200m, 400m, and 800m loop. If it's foggy, they only use the 200m loop for safety reasons.
The lake is accessible for people with restricted physical abilities; I have to caveat that it's accessible for me to use. Generally, I take my legs off near the edge, get changed and shuffle into the water. That works for me anyway; someone with more restrictions might find it more challenging. The team at the lake are keen to help and assist if required. It might be worth contacting them before you swim there if you have any specific requirements.
There is a small cafe, which sells hot drinks which is perfect...
Read moreI've been at Horseshoe Lake now for 12 years, going through from absolute beginner to Instructor. The owner and managing staff are fantastic and will always try their absolute best to accomodate you no matter who you are. The lake is teeming with life and is great for wildlife walks with young children. Ice cream, teas and coffees are all available inside the club house.
The monthly membership scheme is a great and extremely cost effective way to get yourself and your family out onto the lake throughout the summer months. When you consider the standard hire rates, the monthly membership pays for itself after only two or three visits, so if you want to get the kids off the Xbox and out into the fresh air for some exercise this is a great way to do so.
The Instructor team are all fit, young and experts in their craft. Many of them have competed nationally or even internationally and have years of experience in their field between them. Whether it be private tuition, multi-activity days or even just a quick splash around on a Paddleboard, the team will find a way to get you out on the water enjoying...
