Small Nature Reserve.
I saw Blackcaps, Robins, Reed Bunting, and quite a few Wrens and various insect including some hover flies. Unfortunately, it can get quite busy with a good amount of dog walkers (the dogs being on a lead, surely a park or a field would be much better for them to be able to run freely!), as well as quite a few couples with noisy toddlers which certainly would be much better off in a park as anyway, they wouldn't see any wildlife being far too noisy for that while also ruining for anyone else who are actually there to observe wildlife or for birds watching... So better to be there before 10:00 am when it's a bit quieter!
Most of the reserve is Wheelchair friendly except for the narrow path along the golf course right at the beginning of reserve.
Also, while the lockdown rules due to COVID-19 are being easied, some people just show no consideration to others and do not respect the two meters rules. Being disabled and under a lot of medications, I'm considered "High Risk" which is not hard to figure out when you see me move about.. . Nevertheless, some people just walk straight past me without giving me time to move out of their way (true, I can't move really fast) nor making any effort to leave enough space between them and me!
I won't be visiting this reserve again nor would I recommend it to...
Read moreProbably not the best of days to visit as it was damp and foggy but it's a great place run by the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust . Greeted by a volunteer from there he gave a information and a guide . The footpaths are extremely well maintained and there are options to wander off into woodlands if you want to . It's wheelchair accessible and to say it's only a stones throw from the Knavesmire and the park and ride it's very well secluded . It was an enjoyable visit and the gentle meander took about an hour. Lots of wildlife to see and a birdwatchers paradise : thoroughly recommend visiting here the only reason I've given it 4 stars is a lack of toilet facilities so ensure you don't drink too much...
Read moreVisited on a dry January day, Easy to find with a decent size free carpark. Follow the path from the carpark to the reserve which is well signed and with an information board. The main walk is round a boardwalk, level and very easy for push or wheel chairs very good underfoot. There are oppotunities to explore off path but this time of year was very very wet !!. Dogs are welcome on a lead but may be restricted to the boardwalk (still a good walk) if livestock is on the site. Other information boards around the site and a warden with information/leaflets at certain times. Great little walk for all. Note no toilets or refreshments on sitebut still would...
