Backwell lake was built in the 1980,s. I remember seeing someone trying to windsurf when it was surrounded by gravel. Now it's a completely natural place, the Canada Geese have arrived to join the many swans and other birdlife. It's about 800 meters to walk on the pavement round the lake and there is ample parking. Many dog walkers and people just out for a refreshing stroll with the odd fitness runner going past and past and past. Showing me that I am not 30 anymore and should be joining them . People are not supposed to feed the wildlife but some do which can be annoying as they leave cabbage leaves all over which can't be good for the Swans or others. The photos were after flooding last week in January. Just a day and the next it was gone. Whether you have a dog or want to lose weight or just walk around the lake it is a brilliant place to be whatever the weather. I highly recommend it and take my dog there everyday for a walk. Now the water has receeded the lake is back to its natural habitat for...
Read moreFirst time I have been to Backwell Lake since completion, well almost completion, of the works. Car park much improved and good to see bike racks. Viewing platform with seating area immediately in front of the car park is a lovely touch. Good place of an evening to experience the warmth of the sun, watch it playing on the water, feel the caress of the breeze and listen to the wind blowing through the trees. A wonderful enriching experience. There is now full access for all along the path around the lake - long overdue and fought for, for many years. It was lovely to see young couples, dog walkers, young families and photographers enjoying the area. More information, with photos, would be an enhancement as would be picnic tables and benches. However, overall a lovely place to spend time with family and friends, within safety requirements of COVID-19 of course, appreciate nature, have a gentle walk and...
