Found out about the Navan Fort through doing a walking tour of Armagh City, which I would highly recommend. The visitor center is simular shape to New Grange visitor centre. You have a choice of doing the Fort yourself or doing a tour, we opted for the tour. With the tour you get great insight into what life was like back then. All of this is reacted for you, they were amazing considering their captive audience was 4 Adults but they were still great and very funny but yet still learned loads and you got to be in a dwelling of that time period. We also got to hear about battles and the weapons they used. I enjoyed that alot and after that our tour guide came and took us to the Fort, she was very informative on the way to the forth. Its hard to imagine that this forth wouldn't exist only for ppl getting involved so it wasn't demolished. Can't understand why ppl want to get rid of our history and heritage as Ireland has amazing history and places of historical interest to visit. It was brilliant to travel up and see the forth outlines on the grass and invision yourself back in the day when a structure would of been there and imagine what it be like doing religious ceremonies and giving offerings up to the God's. If you have interest in history or just like visiting these types of places this is so worth a visit and it's amazing that it's still there to visit. Really enjoyed my visit and I would really recommend the tour,...

Went to the Wickerman festival. To be perfectly honest i was totally disappointed. Not really sure what justified the £14.50 ticket. We were expecting so much more. There was about three or 4 stalls and the best stall was the stall selling soaps. The music was good but there was not enough information on the website. Everyone mostly brought there own food and drinks and chairs and throws and were just lying about on the floor. I even called the day before asking did i need to bring anything and and was told no. We stayed about 20 minutes and left. There was absolutely no atmosphere at all last night. It was like walking around a graveyard. Not sure how many times this festival has been on but lessons need to be learned here. Exactly what what was the entry free paying for? You even had to pay extra to visit some round house inside the centre which i thought was a disgrace. You need about 30 more stalls with people selling there goods, And at least some stalls selling food, local beers, wines or cider. Everyone was just drinking there booze from carrier bags. Certainly was not going to hang around for 3 hours waiting for the Wickerman to burn. This was not a festival. I don't know...

Fantastic experience at Navan Centre. The welcoming team was eager to help me have the best experience and Navan did not disappoint. The first stop is a traditional encampment with re-enactors that really transported you into the lives of the people from that time.

Next is a tour of the site. I deeply appreciate the knowledge and storytelling ability of Connell in particular. He made the history and facts accessible and interesting for all in our party--from the young lad of around 10 to we adults. I can't say this would happen for all groups, but Connell played a traditional folk tune as well that just absolutely capped the experience.

After returning from the Navan Fort, I viewed the well done museum and exhibits that rounded out my visit. Learning the lore and science of the Navan site was a highlight of my trip to Ireland. Highly recommend for a...

Good place to go to learn more about ancient Irish history. It's about 2 miles outside Armagh city in a rural location. At the moment the centre is closed due to covid restrictions, but it's still possible to park by the entrance and walk the hill fort and ecology trail. The area around the bottom of the hill fort was very muddy and slippery in February, so try and walk on the long grass to get to the top of the mounds. There are great views from the top of the mounds and you can see the spires of Armagh cathedral from here. I did a quick 45 minute evening walk along the trail, but you could spend over an hour here. I'll be back to visit the centre and coffee shop when they open again.

A must see if you are in Ireland. The visitor centre has a lot of fascinating information about ancient Ireland, and the staff are very helpful. The sites themselves are amazing monuments to human endeavour, and speak plainly of the faith and belief that is held in this part of the world. Also, extremely clean! We've been to other sacred sites around Britain and Ireland and sadly they all seem to be magnets for "trinkets" left by visitors which inevitably damage trees and local wildlife. Nothing of the sort here, which is awesome! We'll definitely be back for longer next time.

It is one of the best tourist attractions I have been to in Ireland. The staff were absolutely terrific, the most friendly people and very welcoming. I was lucky, as I got in there after a school tour, so it was quiet, and I was treated like a VIP. I got to see the documentary with the entire theatre to myself, get a personalised reenactment show, and tour the ancient royal site, Emain Macha, with an excellent, passionate guide. This site is highly recommended if you want to step back in time and convene with our ancient ancestors.
