I've had to really take some time before leaving this review after visiting puxton park in August 2024. I have both positive and negative criticism. Both of which I hope will be constructive for the owner of puxton park.
The park itself is fun packed with lots to do. It was fun to see other adults/parents getting stuck into alot of the attractions and enjoying themselves. My 9 year old had a wicked time, he did not want to leave.
My negative criticisms is that we couldn't physically get close to the animals to feed them. We paid for feed only to find that the animals had 2 sets of fences between us and them, with a big feeding tube where customers tip said food down into the tube, and the food fall out the end of the tube at the bottom. The food piled up by the tube all on the ground. The animals had little to no interest in the food. We were disappointed to see that there was only a small amount of animals there. Majority of which had 2 fences between customers and them.
There was very little to nothing for my 2 year old to do. Puxton park has a very embarrassing underwhelming toddler park, which consists of a climbing thing and a slide. Only attraction my 2 year old was allowed to go on was the dinosaur jeeps and that was because she is tall for her age. Every other attraction, Staff asked the age of my 2 year old! where she was then denied access.
Given the only thing my 2 year old was able to do and enjoy was the dinosaur jeeps! It has left a bitter taste in my mouth, as we were still made to pay a unreasonable price for her entry.
Puxton park has a small bunny village which was cute! That being said you could see a cleaner less busy version at a pets at home store and not have to pay the astronomical price tags.
Weve visited the most popular zoo/animal parks on Google over the summer holidays! And as far as animal attractions go! Puxton park is a let down. There are a few myself and the children have visited else where that have made us laugh out loud, share facts, get up close selfies, and most importantly have been able to interact with the animals. I know fences are put in place to safe guard animals and small children etc! But this is the only park/zoo we have seen that has gone to such an extreme. Really was a disappointment. While other parks and zoos have staff walking round constantly keeping an eye on things! Puxton park seemed to lack that! And instead have very limited, very young and shy staff working on attractions in a very busy establishment, on season peak.
Ques where chaos. Grown adults jumping ques in front of children and families and being boisterous. Staff not wanting or feeling comfortable to intervene or manage this kind of behaviour and stop it from happening. Had seen countless families leaving lengthy ques after being stood for over 20 minutes, understandably walking away venting frustrations as grown adults, and children! were left unsupervised by staff and allowed to que jump. At times I was more than happy to tell grown adults to join the que and not annoy those that are actually queing! It was hard to tell unsupervised children to do the same. Though this is a parenting issue! I feel staff need to be told and trained on how to deny access to unsupervised children, and call through on radios to ask for assistance with re grouping said children back to their parents/carers. This overlooked safeguarding concern is what has made me question puxton parks emergency protocols and safeguarding terms and conditions.
We will visit again next year in the hopes that things have improved. Untill then i really hope puxton park improves on the issues raised! And we as a family are able to enjoy ourselves to the parks...
Read moreHaving not been to Puxton since my youngest was in a pushchair, I wasn't quite sure what to expect. When they were little, we went specifically for the soft play area, but now at fourteen and nearly twenty (!) we thought it would be nice to make a return visit and spend the afternoon looking at some animals... bit of 'animal therapy', if you like : ) The park itself has expanded massively over the years. We even commented on how different the driveway was... as in the trees, bushes and greenery had all grown and matured, whereas previously it seemed a lot more open (this is a positive, by the way. It looked/looks/felt lovely). There seemed to be more animals from what I can remember. The Reindeer are beautiful, as are the Alpacas, but we couldn't seem to see any pigs... though perhaps they'd been moved and we were just unlucky. There is now an indoor area which houses spiders, snakes and THE cutest little monkeys, and my personal favourite... 'Derek's Barn' (presumably named after Weston's own, and the founder, Derek Mead) which houses the beautiful cow's in the milking parlour, where you can take a walk around and even get to see 'the maternity suite', where quite frankly (and without wanting to sound ignorant) I had no idea that's how big a pregnant cow got... she was absolutely HUGE (think King Kong, in cow form) ;) We had a really lovely afternoon, we laughed and smiled the entire time we were there. I would say it does perhaps aim itself at the younger family, as in 95% of it is aimed at children between the ages of 3-11? but if you like a leisurely wander around whilst looking at, stroking and feeding some very beautiful and friendly animals, you can easily spend a good few hours here... if you're a young family with young kids, easily the whole day! We finished our afternoon with coffee and cake in the onsite restaurant, and bought a few goodies to take home from the farm shop. All in all a...
Read moreWe visited yesterday, absolutely loved it! Even with being busy it wasnt crowded, so much space to avoid others, we never had to wait long for anything., my only downfall for this place is it closes at 5.30, yet everything yesterday was closing around 4.30?? The Jurassic world 4x4 closed dead on 4.25, my children was gutted.. we then went into the animal barn, was told it was closing at 4.40 & to start making our way out.. went to the trampolines/bouncing pads they was all locked up when we got there at 4.50 a lady said they had been closed off for a good 10/15 minutes & her child was so upset.. I don’t understand why closing time is 5.30 yet everything was shut off a hour earlier? This information needs to be made clear, as our child is autistic, therefore we have to plan our day on visuals. So he knows what’s happening first, next & last. With everything closing up to a hour earlier it completely messed up the now & next we had in place for our day here (I understand things need times to close down, however just like the 4x4 it literally took the bloke minutes to close it down before he walked off so not sure why a hour is needed?).. . We will definitely be back, however I really think you’re timings need to be looked at, the bouncers etc that aren’t run by staff I don’t see why they need to be closed a hour earlier. We pay until 5.30 however you are forced to leave up to a hour earlier in reality.. with that said staff was great with my son, especially the lady on the little paddle boats. She was very patient, calm & was always smiling.. the place is very clean & kept lovely. Nothing looks ‘run down’, lots of hand cleaning stations which is great. Food reasonably priced & the best chips we’ve had from a park. Lovely selection in the gift shop/deli. And a great deal on the meat...
