A great find! We went on a Sunday morning and expected it to be busy as the weather was lovely but we almost had the place to ourselves! We had a guided tour and then went on the miniature railway which the children loved. The website says the train doesn't start running until 2pm but this is an error - it usually starts around 12pm and the driver let us stay on for 4 loops! The train is by donation and was longer than most we have been on before. Lots of places to sit and have a picnic and grass for children to play on and nice clean toilets. Would highly recommend. We were there for around 2 hours with children aged between 1-5.

Cracking place this If you're into industrial heritage it's a must visit So much history in one place . Great set of volunteers who look after everything and offer their knowledge . Wealth of information on tap and guided tours if you want one. Very relaxed atmosphere compared to most museums , you're left free to explore the site / exhibits They have certain days when various engines run but the water powered machinery is shown off daily. Not very often you see in-situ 1600/1700's machinery still in a working state There is also a steam railway set in the grounds which is a top addition to the site. Entry fee is very fair

Great place to get an insight into the industrial heritage of the area and England’s engineering past. Wasn’t expecting a guide tour or to see so many things working, from water wheels to steam engines. Well worth the admission price. From the website “Top Forge is a Water Powered Heavy Iron Forge whose history can be traced back to at least 1640. The site has been used for bloomeries and fineries but it is best known for the Wrought Iron Railway Axles that were hammer-welded between 1840 and the closing of the Forge around 1910.”

We visited on Sunday 23rd June 2019 We were deeply impressed by how friendly all of the volunteers were and their knowledge. We were invited on the guided tour and spent some time with our host Gordon who was knowledgeable, enthusiastic, charming and brilliant. The engines, machines and artifacts were incredible and even more fascinating as they are brought to 'life' by the volunteers who generously donate their time and their energy. We would recommend this attraction to all, all ages and all interests, it is educational and entertaining. Thanks for keeping these historic items 'alive' Chris & Deb Gawthrop and Chris &...
