Beckford Tower is on the edge of the city so quite out the way but definitely worth a visit. Built by William Beckford as part of his landscape gardens to keep part of his collection of art. It is set in a beautiful location overlooking magnificent countryside. Indeed from the top we were able to see the White House at Roundway Hill Devizes which was amazing. We had booked the lantern tour as well as standard access which allowed us a guided tour right up in the top of the lantern. The gentleman who was our guide was friendly and informative. The architecture of the tower is spectacular especially the winding staircase to the top. It was good to be able to see some of the architectural details and restoration. If you decide to go up to the lantern remember there are alot of steps! The Lansdown Cemetery has taken over part of the original landscaped gardens, and William Beckford was the first burial in the new cemetery which was established after his death, the cemetery is interesting in itself and if you follow the main path it leads to the Grotto. We were delighted to see a coffee van by the Grotto entrance which was...

If you love country walks, take the Cotswold Way field walk up to Beckford’s Tower on a sunny day. You’ll see spectacular views of Bath and the surrounding hills and fields, absolutely stunning scenery and the freshest air.

Beckford’s tower is at the very top of Bath, set in the grounds of a cemetery where William Beckford’s tomb can be found.

The tower holds some of the art, letters and books owned by William Beckford’s, along with snippets about his personal life and journey. A truly interesting individual.

You can climb the full height of the tower which has a narrow spiral staircase and is a little vertigo inducing but manageable unless you have a severe fear of heights.

Beckford’s history is delicately managed, with a variety of literature available in the shop discussing the slave trade and its impact...

I have been wanting to visit for a while and finally got round to it. I'm glad I got to visit and have a look around and go up the tower. I had a nice chat to the friendly member of staff who was working on my visit she seems really knowledgeable of the building and its history. We had a talk about other parts of Bath which was nice to pass on stuff I know about other local places. The museum is really interesting with lots of information and things to look at. Going up the tower was fun but a long way up but once you're at the top the views are amazing although on my visit it was hazy out so limited how far you could see but still great views. It's really worth a visit. There is no step free access to the tower or museum. The cemetery is worth a walk around there is Beckford's grave...

Fascinating building full of history. Hard to find the very small car park, there are 2 to choose from. We parked by the grotto as we missed the sign for the one at the tower as from the road it looked like someone's driveway, disabled parking at both car parks. The cemetery is interesting to have a wander around. A bonus is that your ticket is valid for the Year so we can return befor the end of December. We counted 154 steps up to the tower....well worth it for the views!
