Stunning Ice Age Caves in Limestone Craggs, Gorge Walks and 'Britains Oldest Art Gallery' (Ice Age paintings and flint carvings on cave walls

Amazing to discover that Mammoths, Hyena's and Rhino's once roamed here and their remains have been found in the caves.

Opening - every day except Christmas, Boxing and New Year's Day.

Opening Times - are seasonal refer to their Website

Charges - Entrance is free, charges for the following: ~ £3 (2018), for all day parking for the Car Park, pay at the machine (take the bottom part of the ticket to the Visitors Centre to find out the current offer). Refer their Website for current prices: ~ Exhibition, small charge (Adults, Concessions, Children Free) ~ Cave Tour (Adults, Concessions, Children reduced price):

Accessibility - good for many parts, good paths with some slopes: ~ Caves are up in the Limestone Cliffs, there are some well constructed steps upto some and some caves appeared to have metalled staircase within. ~ Lift, to the Exhibition, in the Visitors Centre and to the entrance walk to the Craggs.

Cafe and Restaurant - nice food, staff and views with indoor and balcony seating area.

Carpark - extensive, parking for the Disabled closer to the Visitors Centre. Pay £3 (2918 price) at the Machine for all day parking.

Children - play and grass areas to run around. Take care near the Craggs Pond. There was a young school party just finishing their tour, the children said they loved it.

Exhibition - we did not have time for this in the time we had, choosing to do the outside walk, we intend to come back and look at this at a later visit.

Shop (Visitors Centre) - a wide selection of items.

Toilets - not far from Ticket and Help Desk. Decent loo for the Disabled, however, the toilet is a bit low down.

Visitors Centre - very nice and helpful staff.

Wildlife and Flora - sadly, whilst there are no more Mammoths or Rhino's roaming wild, there are birds,...

Visited for the first time yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it. There was ample parking on arrival, including several disabled spots right next to the door. At the reception, we were given a leaflet (free) with a map, and information about the history and layout of Creswell Crags. The staff couldn't have been more helpful with information about disabled facilities, eating areas, and activities available. There was a shop where you could buy soft toys, magnets, fossils and much more. The museum was well thought out and full of interesting facts and information. There were plenty of toilets, all of good standard and clean. The only problem I could foresee is that the toilets were fixed to the wall, which could be difficult for larger visitors. There was a cafe, which was very reasonably priced, with a good selection of sweet & savoury, meat & veggie, suitable for all ages. The staff were very pleasant. Again, the seats provided were not sturdy enough for larger visitors. The grounds were superb. There was a playground, wildflower meadow and the gorge itself was spectacular. Everything was easy access for all mobilities, and the walk around the lake was on an easy path and was just over a mile long. Everything on show had the environment in mind. There were a variety of activities (not all free) on offer, from guided cave tours, to mini-beast adventures. All in all, I was very impressed with Creswell Crags and I will certainly...

Lovely place and beautiful to walk around and all the natural parts (that haven't been gated off) are amazing. However, the paid 'tours' are disappointing and the advertising is misleading, you only go into the first section of most caves and the information is tailored for children. Cafe is fine but don't bother with the bird food since the 'bird feeding area' (a large, full bird feeder on a random tree along the path) is also quite misleading! We booked onto 2 tours and after seeing the whole vicinity of the 2nd tour while on our first (misled regarding the size of the caves by the website) we could see there wasn't much more to it and tried to cancel or swap the second tour tickets. Lady on reception definitely could have been friendlier, wouldn't swap the tickets for another tour (claimed all booked but we could clearly see availability online) and advised we'd need to speak to the bookings manager on Monday for a refund which was absolutely fine - if it was true, however come Monday we've been advised refunds aren't possible (reception should have told us as we would have gone on the tour for the sake of not losing the money) and ignored after that. Highly recommend visiting the area for the natural aspects, anything you're being charged for is likely...
