Towneley Hall is a stunning historic house set in 400 acres of beautiful parkland. It has a museum with fascinating displays of natural history, Egyptology, local history and art. You can explore the period rooms, the secret passages, the haunted mummy and the Towneley Bear. The hall also hosts events and exhibitions throughout the year. A great place to visit for all ages.
If you love plants and gardening, you will love Towneley Hall Garden Centre. It has a wide range of quality plants, from annuals to perennials, from houseplants to trees. Read moreTowneley Hall is a great place to visit, but at the moment the hall is being renovated so not all of it is open to the public. The surrounding gardens and the woodland areas are free to wander round. There is a choice of parking places. At the bottom of the long drive up to the hall, there is a children's playground, which is very good, for children up to the age of maybe 10years. In the woods, there are plenty of squirrels about, if you take nuts they are quite brave. There are some wood carvings dotted about as well, carved from tree stumps and fallen branches. Look out for the fairies sitting up in the trees. There are refreshments available, it was a mobile unit last time we were there, the cafe might be under...

The building is very well preserved and is somewhat of a rabbit warren with its many rooms and corridors. The exhibits in each room are varied and interesting. If you have been to Cliffe Castle then I would say this place is comparable in regards to interesting installations. There is a great taxidermy collection and even an Ancient Egypt exhibit amongst other things.Info signs are present for each item In the collections.
Beyond the exhibits and more impressive in my opinion are the various features of the building itself. The various rooms are a real time warp and the long hall in particular is incredible. There is a priests hide to view also.
Lovely gardens surrounding and the park is great. 5* and will be...
