A great place to park up for £1 for the whole day and within walking distance of the Pontcysyllte Aquaduct which I'd recommend... (the parking at the Aquaduct is more expensive and busier) Back to the park then... My children are all grown up now but with a green field, play area, animal and bird enclosures it seems a great place to bring the family. Facilities include toilets and a recently opened 'new' cafe with friendly staff willing to impart local information to aid people like myself to make the most of the area (by the way, the carrot cake is fantastic 😋) There is a nice paved circular walk that takes in the river with seating along the way to admire the scenery including the rail Viaduct. There is also a spur footpath (not paved) branching off the circular walk to take you to the Aquaduct (1.5 miles ish?) Makes for a nice gentle walk for couples on a nice summers day. Personally...I will not only use the park for its cafe and circular walk in the future when I'm visiting the area but also to make the longer walk to the Aquaduct again... it just adds that extra to the trip and as mentioned before, saves the hassle and expense of parking at the Aquaduct. A hidden little gem and well worth the £1 parking fee......
Read moreThere are 2 viaducts. The 1st one is a colossal engineering master piece for trains. This is only a few hundred yards from the carpark. The 2nd one is a canal waterway that is at least a mile and a half walk. Just follow the pathway signs. It's a world heritage viaduct. But it's a big but although it's great to visit. There are a lot of very steep steps up to the water level. Great coming down, but upwards, good luck. I saw a picture of a young lad feeding a deer 🦌 which is one of the reasons we went. No deer's out today, sadly. Lamas sheep and goats. It is a very nice little cafe with homemade beef rolls and is delicious. Parking if you can believe it is £1 for all. Toilets next to the carpark. A very good around 9000 steps if you do the canal viaduct and keep to the normal path. More steps if you go off the main routes. Lots of photos. We went on Thursday the 8th May, and it was virtually empty at half 10 until 1 ish. Can imagine very busy weekend and bank...
Read moreA lovely little place for an afternoon out. Easy parking (cash only), a small playground for the smaller ones, a little coffee shop selling amazing Welsh roasted coffee and another little visitor shop. Both took cash only when we were there.
The walk from the playground down to beside the river is easy and paved, so easy for pushchairs and presumably wheelchairs, with lovely meadows one side and the river on the other. The path comes right to the edge of the river at some points, so good close views and ample stone skipping opportunities.
When we were there, cows were walking into the river on the other side for a dip and a drink!
Then you get to walk right besides and underneath the Cefn Mawr viaduct, which is just stunning and impressive up close. Can get down right next to the feet of the bridge where it sits...
