Impressive ruins of one of England's earliest brick built stately homes, situated within the scenic grounds of Bradgate Park close to the delightful village of Newtown Linford. The house was was the childhood home of Lady Jane Grey, former Queen of England; information displays around the site explain more about its history. Significant portions of the walls and towers remain, but perhaps the most impressive survival is the complete Tudor chapel within the walls. While this wasn't open to the public when I visited, it was still worth seeing from the outside. The park itself is well worth exploring, with a resident deer herd, prominent landmarks in the form of Old John Tower and the Leicestershire Yeomanry War Memorial, and a large expanse of green space interrogatories interspersed with prehistoric rocky outcrops. There are a number of parking areas and public toilet facilities located near the entrances, and tearooms near by the reservoir and Newtown...

This stunning ruin of a 15-16th century house, waa built by the Greys of Groby, and is set in the beautiful Bradgate Park. It's an early example of an unfortified brick built house. Fabled to be the birthplace of Lady Jane Grey, pretender to the throne. Jane "reigned" for nine days after the death of Henry viii's son Edward vi, before being dealt with by Mary i. The house has breathtaking views set within the park, including a community of deer. Don't forget to walk up to Old John, a folly in the park, with commanding views of Leicester and its' environs. If you like early brick houses and castles, then it's well worth also visiting nearby Kirby Castle, in...

Part of Bradgate park, this is the old stately home which use to belong to the Grey family

The house use to be vast with a huge walled estate and garden, later a traditional walled garden or kitchen garden was added

Within the wall garden are a group of peacock and peafowl I wasn't sure but within the walled estate it looked like there was a flock of sheep? Please reply and confirm or say otherwise to this

The estate use to be open to explore but has now been closed shame its a ruin as the home in its day would have been staggering its a big loss but still a...

While visiting Bradgate Park we visited Bradgate House which was very interesting and educational too. We where warmly welcomed at the gates , entry is free , and we explored freely around ruins and grounds . Chapel was beautiful and we got more info about Greys family and Lady Jane Grey who was Queen for only 9 days. Very interesting part of heritage and history of Lancashire . Would definitely recommend visit. On side of house is Garden that is open 12-3pm on Sundays and public can go in and pick some tomatoes etc we where late so didn’t go in.

Beautiful park with interesting walks. The ruins of Lady Jane Grey's family home are virtually in the middle of the park surrounded by oak trees and sweeping landscapes. A great day out for a long rambling walk. Dogs are welcome but need to be kept on a lead as there are deer roaming free throughout the park. If you are in the mood for an energetic walk, take the route up to "Old John". From here there are spectacular views of Leicestershire. Well worth a visit.
