Impressive ruins of one of England's earliest brick built stately homes, situated within the scenic grounds of Bradgate Park close to the delightful village of Newtown Linford. The house was was the childhood home of Lady Jane Grey, former Queen of England; information displays around the site explain more about its history. Significant portions of the walls and towers remain, but perhaps the most impressive survival is the complete Tudor chapel within the walls. While this wasn't open to the public when I visited, it was still worth seeing from the outside. The park itself is well worth exploring, with a resident deer herd, prominent landmarks in the form of Old John Tower and the Leicestershire Yeomanry War Memorial, and a large expanse of green space interrogatories interspersed with prehistoric rocky outcrops.
