We went as a family 4 for a little picnic. There are no Pay as you Park machines due to vandalism and the Parking App had crashed. We managed to get through to the Park Warden. Although a stressful start, all was resolved. I'm pleased that the Parking charges are reinvested back into the park but I wonder if the charges are a little steep for what is on offer.
There is a variety of open space, woodlands and lakes to explore.
The open spaces are great for picnics, playing the kids, a spot of sunbathing or reading a book.
There are looks of little nooks and crannies in the woodland which are fun to explore. One takes you to the old Icehouse, fun but slightly creepy.
The fishing lake looked like it could use a little TLC. As did some of the gardens but the Palace.
The toilets by the Rangers Hut were in very good condition for public toilets.
There is an ice cream van who serves ice cream and hot food. Her sign says that they served hot food, but we stuck to icecreams!
I'm a little surprised that there isn't a tea room on the estate as I think this would make a wonderful addition.
There didn't seem to be many bins. But that being said I didn't see much rubbish either. So either very careful visitors, very attention rangers or a mixture of both.
I would recommend for a sunny day out, a picnic...
Read moreA beautiful place to visit, there is a strange little gated garden, that looks like it once belonged to a house, but there is no house? It is filled with Rhododendrons, perennial plants and herbs. A secret garden in the woods. There are plenty of places to walk, sit, lay down, in peaceful tranquility. The lake has very large Carp meandering through the water on the hunt for flies who are dancing on the surface. From the Mole hills forming dotted lines through the grass, to the Bug hotels erected in shady spots, it is a fantastic place for wildlife and humans alike.
I would definitely recommend visiting throughout the seasons to enjoy the ever changing scenery.
Please 🙏🏻 do remember, if you bring a picnic take your rubbish home with you. If you bring your 4 legged friends 🐕 clean up after them. Leave the Park as you would like to find it, safe for you and the wildlife who live there. ...
Read moreThis was the 1st time I've visited this country park so that's why I've given it a 4 than a 5 as I only saw a snippet. I went for a picnic with a friend and I loved what I saw. Very peaceful, green, relaxing. It was a hive of activity from wildlife- birds, bees and butterflies. I will certainly be going back to continue the exploration. Ample facilities which were clean and a decent sized car park too. The app to pay for parking was easy to use and I thought a reasonable price for the time there. There was also an activity trail for children which looked fun! And dogs welcomed too. Perfect day out for anyone looking to relax and be...
