If you want a peaceful day fly fishing in wild surroundings, this is probably not for you. Having said that, it IS located in the lovely Dales near the iconic Kilnsey Crags and there are amazing views across the valley.
There are 2 areas - the one is for little kids and people who have no clue about fly fishing. This is a "no holds barred" zone where the idea is to catch a fish using any and all means. The water here is so densely stocked that you can probably foul hook your bag limit by dragging a treble hook through the water. Go here if you have a kid who just wants to catch. This is as close to guaranteed as fishing gets.
Then nearby are 2 small lakes. These have a number of short jetties approx 10m apart. You are asked to fish from these jetties. At least half are occupied (at least whilst I was there) so it's by no means a solitary experience. The fish are stocked here too though perhaps slightly less densely than in "kiddie carnage".
I'd guess on most days you should easily catch your bag limit and I did spot some guys catch 3 or 4 fish in a short time. I managed to lose 2 fish so went home empty handed. This is mostly due to my short comings as a fisherman! My fishing buddy blanked too so we're a sad pair! Nevertheless, I did enjoy the experience and if you want to catch a few fish in a pretty spot, you could do worse. But it's not for those who want to have the classic get away from it all fly...

Everything was to pay for and it wasn't obvious how much things were or where to pay. We opted for a single rod (£9) in the family fish pond between 3 of us and it worked well. The guy on the desk was super friendly and helpful, showed us how to use the rod effectively and explained about the bait. We spent 90mins gentle fishing and caught 2 fish, you have to take the fish home with you and they cost £4 each. A fresh delivery of fish came while we were fishing and that was great to watch! Fish preparation is available on site, 2 guys filleted, beheaded and bagged up our winnings. Quick stop in the cafe before we went home, 2 ice-cream and 2 cans of pop cost £12.80 which seemed expensive but everything costs more at the moment. Bathrooms were clean and presentable, plenty of parking. Lots of space to walk around. We might go back to explore the trails at a later date but will most definitely be...
Read moreAfter a long drive out away from the stress of the city and a day spent clambering up and down dale and mountains we stopped off at 4:30pm at Kilnsey Park. We were near dehydrated and desperately in need of a tea or coffee. Although they had cleaned the coffee machine for the day they were still very happy and willing to make us fresh coffee. We instead ourselves opted for two teas. I’d not drank tea for a decade but this was the best cup of tea I’d had in my lifetime and served by two of the friendliest of people in one of the most finest spots within the Yorkshire Dales. We were made to feel very welcomed. The well stocked food and gift shop within the cafe was a pleasure to shop round and we ended spending up and blowing our overdraft on various bits and pieces and also sharing a bag of reduced price Lemon Bonbons. A beautiful end to a beautiful day. Hope to come back here soon. You won’t be disappointed here. Thank you for adding to our...
