We visited this place in August 2024 and were so impressed with the way the borders were planted. The colour schemes and incredible selection of plants, many of which we hadn’t seen before, were amazing. The three acre site is divided up into many different areas by beautifuly clipped yew trees and shrubs and walls, some of which were on different levels. The café is set in a very large tithe barn, where there is one large area set aside for a gift shop. A good selection of home made cakes were on offer, as well as a selection of sandwiches made with lovely fresh bread and hot soup was also on offer. Coffee was only filter coffee, but surprisingly good. There are few tables inside the barn, with quite a few more just outside in a quiet corner of the orchard. Toilets were outside, just around the corner from the cafe. There is a walk through a small arboretum and around a field behind the gardens. We spent two hours walking round the gardens and having a sandwich in the orchard, but could easily have spent more time if we’d have done the walk around the field. I’ve given this venue 5 stars, as we love to visit houses and gardens and this one is right up there on our best gardens to visit. Be aware that there are multiple levels throughout the venue, so wheelchair users would have quite some difficulty getting around and there is also a step over through the doorway into the cafe. Also, dogs are not allowed here. There are no amenities for children or picnic areas. We visited on a weekday and most of the visitors we saw were, like us, seniors. Parking is across a busy road...
Read moreI've visited Bourton House garden about 6 years ago and enjoyed it, so decided I'd take my sister for a visit recently. I have to say I'm so pleased I've gone back. The gardens aren't huge but they are packed full of beautiful plants and exciting and unusual planting combinations. You'll see everything from British natives and common garden plants to exotic gems and rare beauties. I particularly enjoyed the combinations of aeoniums and pelargoniums in large pots. There's many different garden rooms, each with their own charms and themes. The staff are wonderfully friendly and helpful. There's delicious cakes and snacks to be had. A really well worth...
Read moreWhat’s going on in the Cotswolds? We travel all over the UK and like to visit Gardens with our two dogs. We stayed in Bourton on the Water and of the 7 gardens in the area only 1 allowed dogs. I don’t accept the weak excuse that some people don’t like dogs. Most people like dogs and the few people that don’t are in the vast minority. The type of people that go to gardens are unlikely to be owners of troublesome dogs. The type of people that go to gardens with their dogs would respect the surroundings. And what about the revenue you are turning away with such rules? Shame on you and your...
