The walled garden here, with it's seating areas, large spaces and display of flowers is much nicer than the neighbouring property, Berrington Hall. There is some restorative work going on at the front of the property with scaffolding in place, but this is still a beautiful place. Tastefully furnished inside and with a great history tied into the Crofts military service. There are extensive and very well waymarked walks here in the vast parkland area. You could spend a whole day walking these trails. For the best views, take the path up towards the iron age Fort. But actually the best view across to Wales, Hay Bluff and the Beacons beyond is not actually from the top of this trail. The best view is from the top of the Hay field, before the tree line, about half way up. There is a nice cafeteria at the property with indoor and outdoor seating. Definately recommend a visit here, particularly on a fine day so you can make the most of the walks and the great views.

A good day out, with an interesting castle, gardens and countryside to explore. The usual eating and shopping you would expect at a National Trust property. There are a reasonable number of rooms that can be explored in the house (it’s more a mock castle really, but more comfortable than many stately homes I’ve visited). I always think it’s nice to be able to see ‘below stairs’ but that isn’t currently possible here. The family history makes for interesting reading as you go round and the staff are, as always, knowledgeable and engaging. The walled gardens are wonderful. The walk we tried was not quite what we expected and hence the reduction in stars - As it was wet we picked what looked the easiest, but it turned out to be round the edge of a very muddy field with a large group of beef cattle that seemed quite aggressive and followed us - I think a warning sign would have been appropriate. Nevertheless we survived…

We had an absolutely wonderful day at Croft Castle and Garden! The entire experience was fantastic from start to finish. The grounds are beautifully kept, and there's so much history to explore inside the castle itself. The gardens are stunning, offering a peaceful walk with plenty of picturesque spots to stop and take it all in. What made the visit even more special was that we were able to bring our dog along. It’s such a dog-friendly place, and our pup loved exploring the grounds just as much as we did! There are well-marked walking paths and plenty of space to roam, making it a perfect day out for both humans and four-legged friends alike. The staff were incredibly welcoming, and the overall atmosphere was calm and relaxing. We’ll definitely be coming back for another visit! Highly recommend for anyone looking for a lovely day out in the countryside, especially if you’re bringing your dog!

Owned by the Croft family since 1085, the castle and estate passed out of their hands in the 18th century, before being repurchased by the family in 1923. In 1957 it was bequeathed to the National Trust. We visited on the penultimate day of October 2022 which had been overcast and wet. However as we arrived at Croft Castle car park the grey clouds cleared and blue sky and sunshine e dominated our afternoon visit. We decided first to avail ourselves of the cafe where we took some refreshments including toasted sandwiches and warmed sausage rolls - delicious and reasonably priced. Following this we had a visit to the housed and learned about its fascinating history. A stroll in the grounds following completed our most enjoyable day including nearby Berrington Hall at National Trust properties.

Not a great fan of the ‘look but don’t touch, stay off the grass’ National Trust, but occasionally we come across a refreshing NT site, first impressions were good with the usual good natured helpful staff and large but well located car park. Apparently there has been a structure on this site for 1,000 years, now owned by many generations of the Croft Family Earliest earthworks were an Iron Age hill fort People in camper vans picnicking, in fact I think this is the ideal venue to take a picnic with the kids Great low lying views across Herefordshire and a nice drive to reach Croft Castle Don’t really like things set in Aspic, so I avoided the house tour and explored the grounds with the Dog (plenty of Sniffage opportunities) Berrington Hall not far away but for some reason that property and grounds didn’t grab me on a previous visit
