The walled garden here, with it's seating areas, large spaces and display of flowers is much nicer than the neighbouring property, Berrington Hall. There is some restorative work going on at the front of the property with scaffolding in place, but this is still a beautiful place. Tastefully furnished inside and with a great history tied into the Crofts military service. There are extensive and very well waymarked walks here in the vast parkland area. You could spend a whole day walking these trails. For the best views, take the path up towards the iron age Fort. But actually the best view across to Wales, Hay Bluff and the Beacons beyond is not actually from the top of this trail. The best view is from the top of the Hay field, before the tree line, about half way up. There is a nice cafeteria at the property with indoor and outdoor seating. Definately recommend a visit here, particularly on a fine day so you can make the most of the walks and the great views.

Croft Castle was definitely a gorgeous building, with a lot of history and depth. We were lucky to be there on the same day as a person in the family who we didn't walk around with, but heard extra, personalised history from. Each room was set up with character and clarity, bringing the place alive and the staff were interested upon arrival and shared lovely stories. At the same time, there was a modern art exhibit being displayed beyond the stables in the form of an art film. I always find the combination very interesting and thought it was lovely they were displaying AAPI art and incorporated it into the older scene. However, I felt a little let down by the rest of the facilities (the gardens, church and menu). They weren't horrendous by any means, but there was less information than on other properties for similar buildings and gardens, but this isn't to say it completely detracted from the experience! The castle is still gorgeous and I really recommend it.

A good day out, with an interesting castle, gardens and countryside to explore. The usual eating and shopping you would expect at a National Trust property. There are a reasonable number of rooms that can be explored in the house (itâs more a mock castle really, but more comfortable than many stately homes Iâve visited). I always think itâs nice to be able to see âbelow stairsâ but that isnât currently possible here. The family history makes for interesting reading as you go round and the staff are, as always, knowledgeable and engaging. The walled gardens are wonderful. The walk we tried was not quite what we expected and hence the reduction in stars - As it was wet we picked what looked the easiest, but it turned out to be round the edge of a very muddy field with a large group of beef cattle that seemed quite aggressive and followed us - I think a warning sign would have been appropriate. Nevertheless we survivedâŚ

We had an absolutely wonderful day at Croft Castle and Garden! The entire experience was fantastic from start to finish. The grounds are beautifully kept, and there's so much history to explore inside the castle itself. The gardens are stunning, offering a peaceful walk with plenty of picturesque spots to stop and take it all in. What made the visit even more special was that we were able to bring our dog along. Itâs such a dog-friendly place, and our pup loved exploring the grounds just as much as we did! There are well-marked walking paths and plenty of space to roam, making it a perfect day out for both humans and four-legged friends alike. The staff were incredibly welcoming, and the overall atmosphere was calm and relaxing. Weâll definitely be coming back for another visit! Highly recommend for anyone looking for a lovely day out in the countryside, especially if youâre bringing your dog!

Croft Castle is a country house in the village of Croft, Herefordshire, England. Owned by the Croft family since 1085, the castle and estate passed out of their hands in the 18th century, before being repurchased by the family in 1923. In 1957 it was bequeathed to the National Trust. We visited on the penultimate day of October 2022 which had been overcast and wet. However as we arrived at Croft Castle car park the grey clouds cleared and blue sky and sunshine e dominated our afternoon visit. We decided first to avail ourselves of the cafe where we took some refreshments including toasted sandwiches and warmed sausage rolls - delicious and reasonably priced. Following this we had a visit to the housed and learned about its fascinating history. A stroll in the grounds following completed our most enjoyable day including nearby Berrington Hall at National Trust properties.
