They have given the walkers path to "Rookie" bikers. It is not for walkers, country lovers, people who want to see wild life, photographers, as walkers we could not access a lot of the park paths as the people on bikes were using them, I am not sure if the bikers are scaring away the wild life as I see more birds in my garden in less then 1 min, then I did on the 5 mile walk we didn't see one bird, nor did not hear any bird songs on the 5 mile walk, only thing we heard was children screaming as they went down the bike tracks very fast.

Great if you are biker and want to rush through the country, as walker don't bother, walkers have to share trails with bikers and even though there are many signs telling the bikers to be aware of walk, I had a family of five rushing towards me with the youngest one out of control and nearly hitting me on what was a trial for both walkers and bikers and one bloke having to put his brakes sudden as he came around the corner of is a shared path way.

We could not find any paths for walkers only, although they state there is one and we landed up looking over our shoulders nearly all the way.

No for walkers and those who take time to enjoy the country, yes for bikers who want to rush around the...

Our first visit and we weren't disappointed. The weather was absolutely glorious and everyone else decided to take advantage! We were walking the orange trail, but got lost several times. But lots of experienced walkers able to guide us back to the right track. Some of the trails are mixed with walkers and cyclists but everyone very aware and it felt safe. We had our 6 year old grandson who didn't always move quick enough but cyclists slowed down. Next time I will take a walking stick to help me as some bits were a bit steep. We stopped to have food at the river where there are a few picnic tables. It was like summer there. My footwear was not appropriate and paid the price...so off to invest in a good pair of walking shoes.....not trainers; I would have given it a 5* but feel that signposting could have been better...I ended up climbing over a fallen tree until we realized we weren't anywhere near the orange trail....but the blackberries were lovely....and the Halloween cobwebs. We will definitely visit again. It's paid parking, toilets and showers available....

Nestled amidst lush greenery and serene landscapes, Afan Forest Park offers a delightful escape for families seeking a tranquil picnic retreat. From winding nature trails to picturesque picnic spots, this park boasts a plethora of natural beauty, making it an ideal destination for a leisurely day out with loved ones.

One of the park's standout features is its idyllic setting, perfect for unwinding amidst the soothing sounds of chirping birds and rustling leaves. Whether you're enjoying a leisurely stroll along the forest paths or simply lounging on a blanket, the ambiance of Afan Forest Park is truly enchanting.

However, while the park's natural charm is undeniable, it's essential to address a notable drawback: the restroom facilities. Despite the park's appeal as a family-friendly destination, the restroom amenities fall short of expectations. Visitors may find them lacking in cleanliness and maintenance, which can detract from an otherwise...

The entry on Google Maps is a bit incorrect as the actual Afan Forest Park is a national park in Wales I know as I live in it - it runs along the A4107 from junction 40/41Port Talbot off M4 all the way up to the Bwlch mountain at the top of the Afan Valley going over to Rhondda Cynon Taff - within the park are a number of centres including Afan Argoed which also has the South Wales Miners Museum - this is a magnet for mountain bikers as well as visitors for walking - there is something for everyone in the park from proper trekking and biking to a nice easy walk along a tramac pathway which used to be the old coal train line which goes from Pontrhydyfen ( birth place of Richard Burton + has beautiful aquaduct walks) all the way up to Cymmer and beyond - it's worth a visit but please park and pay in the Afan Argoed centre as the money from parking is ploughed back into maintaining the park for the future.

What a beautiful place with stunning views! Afan Forest has loads of walking trails and several mountain bike trails of varying difficulty. Be prepared for hills as there are lots of them. I made the mistake of not bringing a backpack with water and snacks and ended up quite thirsty as some of the trails are quite challenging. The map was a bit tricky to follow, especially with so many trails. Some walking trails were signposted well, but further along, like on the orange path, it started to feel like we were off trial, with one sign saying that the path had been closed. There are plenty of great facilities on site, including showers, toilets, and a good cafe called The Base (separate review for that). Parking is paid, two pounds seventy five for four hours, which I thought was reasonable, and it even allowed card payments which was a nice surprise in a rural area.
