We visited Glaslyn Wildlife Osprey Visitor Centre on Sunday 03.06.2024. The three hour journey from South Wales was well worth it! At Glaslyn there is free parking including disabled parking and free entry. But donations are very welcome. Toilets are available. Dogs on leads are welcome. Picnic area with spectacular views. The Visitor Centre has a platform at the back that looks towards Aran and Elen's nest. Gift shop and light refreshments are available in the VC. The Hide is a few metres away. Which looks towards Aran and Elen's nest and also looks towards the Pont Croesor Nest of Aeron and Blue 014. Views of the nests and the birds are available on screens from high specification telescopes. THANK YOU to Heather, Mary, Helledd and Judith for a very warm welcome. They were polite, friendly and very knowledgeable and helpful. THANK YOU TO ALL THE VOLUNTEERS. Open from 10:30 - 16:30 Monday 25.03.2024 until September 2024. Check the website to confirm the final day of the season? Follow Winter Live Streaming of The Glaslyn Valley through the changing seasons on YouTube. Thank you to Heather and Barbara (The Moderators) for allowing us to follow The Ospreys and The Glaslyn Valley scenery through YouTube. I would recommend visiting Glaslyn Wildlife Visitor Centre. We look forward to...
Read moreThis is a place we had contributed to since 2014 when locals decided to protect the nesting ospreys following the RSPB withdrawal from the project. The dominant bird was the supreme Mrs G (Glaslyn), an unringed bird who was succeeding in raising her bobs with her mate Monty. This year, the impervious queen failed to arrive and must sorrowfully be assumed dead. Her partner for the previous 6 or 7 years has been Aran who arrived to find his mate was missing, a young female visited the nest, and the upshot is now growing at a prodigious rate, two extremely healthy babies who have been ringed this week. The site is now a success, but having backed their efforts for quite some time, I'll move on to another project, like Mrs G. I've decided to sever my connections with this site. Having looked forward to visiting the site for the first time, I found it to be less than welcoming. I am wheelchair bound but found that members decided to stand in my line of sight, I felt as though I didn't exist. It is bad enough to suffer a loss of mobility but to be made instantly anonymous is even more hurtful. I wish Heather and the core staff best of luck for te...
Read moreIf I could, I'd give them 10 stars instead of 5. We have spent nearly 2 weeks in West and North Wales and this little gem was one of the highlights and it's mainly down to the fantastic volunteers/staff. This bunch are super friendly, knowledgeable and so enthusiastic about what they do. It was an absolute pleasure and privilege to see them, talk to them and learn from them. Needless to mention the great job is done here in supporting and reserving nature, lots to see and learn here, live cameras and recordings on screens and as soon as there is an opportunity to see them live through several available telescopes there, they inform, encourage and guide you to observe Ospreys. Gift shop has lots of lovely and cute items suitable for all ages and different budgets, and if you fancy a cuppa or cold drinks it's available in their little friendly coffee shop. All in all a place worth to visit and support if you are in the area. Did I say that the volunteers were...
