Well, this was our first, and probably last time here. on arrival in the car park ( and I use this term loosely) we were faced with huge deep pot holes, and not just one or two but lots and lots, enough that you cannot maneuver into a space without smashing the bottom of your car. there is very very little signage of where the path goes and apart from the stretch where the two hides are, the rest of the path is rubbish. no views of the ings, rubbish and flytipping dumped all along the path next to a road and part of the walk is next to a busy road. don't get me wrong if you just want to walk to the hides and watch the bird life then this is great but if you want to walk and see birds and wildlife then I would choose somewhere else. we noticed a lot of people seemed to be using the car park and walking on the transpennine trail instead so we assume that must be a better walk than the ings. shame but YWT needs to improve this...

We took our dogs for a walk along this part of the Trans Penine way/trail. The route we took was towards Doncaster which brought us after 2.3 miles out at the Conisbrough viaduct. If you turned off here at the viaduct it would then take you to the Boat Inn at Sprotbrough. The path is solid and you can do it in either boots or trainers. There is a mixture of flat and small inclines and declines through wooded and open areas. Everyone is friendly that you meet apart from the odd mountain biker. We parked in the car park of the nature reserve on Pastures Road which is free.. Personal note take your rubbish home with you please... It's a great little walk for beginners and if you go back on yourself a nice 4.6 miler. We really enjoyed the walk and have been back again since, but most importantly the dogs were knackered when we took them...

Note: I have emailed Yorkshire Wildlife Trust with concerns. Awaiting acknowledgement.

It's free, you do not have to be a member of YWT to go. ✔ It's a lovely walk around the Ings✔, Great if you are a bird watcher ✔ The carpark is also a base for joining the transpennine way ✔ As other reviews state... the car park is a problem. In need of resurfacing, visitors' rubbish & flytipping. I went mid-week 1.15pm- 2.20pm to walk my dog. If you are easily offended DO NOT GO THERE! The location is used for casual hook-ups. The hides occupied by non-bird watchers 😉 And folk in their cars had no intention of walking 😉 Sat in my car having settled the dog (no pun intended) & in the time it took me to message a friend to say I was safe & setting off I was approached by one of the "visitors" 🙄

I will not be returning as a...

Great outdoor space for a walk. Car park is free accommodating up to 10 cars. The walk around the lake is more off the beaten track whilst the paved path is more suitable if you don't want to venture into nature. Lovely spots to watch the birds from viewpoints. Great scenery. It was hard to know at first where to start the walk, but for the paved pathway, go back on the road and follow the trans penine walk signs. II would recommend it.

Great tranquil place to have a walk alone or with the kids or dogs. Beautiful views out across the lake that's been created due to subsidence from mining in the area. Winter, spring, summer or autumn no matter what the time of year theres always something of interest going on with the wild life and mother nature. Well worth a visit if passing by! It's just off the Trans Pennine Trail between Conisborough and High Melton.
