Runkerry Beach, also known as Bushfoot Strand, is a stunning stretch of golden sand on Northern Ireland's north coast. Dramatic scenery surrounds the beach, with the imposing Runkerry Headland on one side and a glimpse of the Giant's Causeway in the distance.

This beach is a paradise for surfers. The strong waves and currents make it a challenge, but for experienced surfers, it's a thrill. However, swimmers should be very cautious. The same strong currents pose a serious risk, and there are no lifeguards.

Despite the swimming restrictions, Runkerry Beach is a great spot for a walk. Explore the rock pools at low tide, watch the surfers tackle the waves, or simply admire the breathtaking views.

For a post-beach treat, you can grab a delicious grilled cheese sandwich from the nearby Mini...

A very nice, clean beach with great views over the sea and coastline. Free car parking is available in the Portballintrae car park adjacent to the beach. Access to the beach from the car park is via a footbridge and the sand dunes. We saw no dog fouling and very little plastic waste along the length of the beach. The sea can be a fantastic colour and looks very clean. There is lots of birdlife, including Oystercatchers, Plovers and Sand Martins. Overall, I recommend this as somewhere to visit if you live in Northern Ireland or...

When the waves crash on this beach they really do crash with an almighty thump. Stunning scenery. Little shop at the car park and during the summer also an ice cream van for the kids both big and small. If you’re into walking I recommend when you go over bridge, go right and enjoy the walk...

The Runkerry beach offers a beautiful scenery if you wish to take a walk to visit giant's causeway FOR FREE, far from its over publicized and over expensive visitor centre. Approx 8km total walk. Parking at Runkerry beach is fee of cost (August 2024)
