I was very excited to visit this mill, and knew it would be closed on the date we were passing through (today) however, upon turning up, we went through an open gate with a sign saying mill open, to our surprise, so headed on up the path to see the water wheel. I only wanted a picture of it, as I was aware it wouldn't be working on days the mill was closed. Unfortunately, even though we were only there less than 5 minutes, just admiring the building and the mill machinery, an angry man decided to make us feel most unwelcome, so unfortunately our visit was ruined. I stopped for a picture, at a mill that said open, with an open gate! Not entirely sure what his problem was, we were doing nothing wrong, as he mentioned it was a public footpath?! But he didnt do any more explaining, I assume he's got riled up at other people doing the same thing, and turning up on days the mill is closed. Unfortunately, being so unkind to people who just wanted to see a historic building and tourists who would definitely have come back multiple times, was not what we expected, nor deserved. The mill is probably great, but if that man has anything do with it, it's probably not. So, be aware that if you turn up on a day the mill is closed (even though a sign says mill open, and a welcoming open gate) you will probably get told off by someone. Such a shame. If this is such a problem, please sort some signage out that someone lives there, because it's absolutely not clear and will...
Read moreWell I wanted to visit Daniels Mill when I found out about it. It has the largest waterwheel on the outside of a mill in the UK at 38 feet 10" in diameter, it weighs 40 tons & was made in cast iron at Coalbrookdale in 1854, so 171 years old. The flour mill has 3 french burr millstones & is a family run mill. Just up from the mill is the picturesque viaduct of the Severn Valley Railway & if your lucky you can get a great picture of a steam train going over it with the mill. The mill wheel did turn but was restricted due to the dry conditions & the wheel needs urgent maintenance on it's wooden bearings which I understand will be done. There is a small tearoom on site which does light snacks & meals, cream tea's & drinks, with tables outside (& in) to watch the wheel turn & steam trains go over the viaduct. The mill lies just off the B4555 road to Highley from Bridgnorth Lower Town. Open 10am to 4pm most weekends & bank holidays, but check...
Read moreCracking spot to stop just outside Bridgenorth. Little cafe with bistro tables served us locally sourced savoury cream tea and ploughmans pork pie with homemade chutney. Very friendly and accommodating host. Beautiful scenery sat outside next to the mill and viaduct watching the steam trains pass in the sunshine. We then managed to take a personal tour of the mill featuring the largest cast iron water wheel in the uk (Huge!) An interesting building with passionate guide with links to the owners of the past 300 years. Well worth a visit, all very fairly priced, and a good hour or so well spent....
