Our first visit on a cold December day and we thoroughly enjoyed our few hours, the paths were lovely and wide/clear and plenty to explore with the little ones with the added charm of the robin trail which was great. Enjoyed the hide, never seen a shelduck before so that was nice to spot. Staff in the discovery centre were very welcoming and informative, lots to look at and talk about aswell as somewhere to grab a tea/snack to warm up. The little river walk was so pretty and all the little activity ideas along the way were brilliant. Never been on the tram, was nice to see it in action and plan for another day out. looking forward to coming back in a warmer season to see the transition. Parking was free and easy to find. No...

Update 2024. Discovered another section of the reserve to the south. Quite a walk from car park but has another hide overlooking estuary. Worth a visit. My Wife absolutely loved this place. Quite a lot of walking involved around various hides and paths. We are not expert birdwatchers but did get to see quite a few that we don't normally see that much down our way. Car park close, very cheap donation basis.Very close to Seaton. Impressive modern built hides built around the wetland estuary area. nice woodland walk area as well. Lots of thought gone into this place. We will definitely be...

I was birdwatching last night 21st sept, in tower hide 6.30pm-8pm opposite 2 chaps hiding in grass camouflage clothing shooting across estuary at any flying birds, I believe certain species are allowed to be shot this time of year? .

But come on shooting 100 meters away in the direction of a nature reserve and viewing hide seems very reckless and not very bright?

No dog to collect injured bird ?

A group of canoers past about 7.30pm and the old man fired up into the air!

Made them jump a mile 🙄,

Just wondered if I should alert police to these people's careless attitude...

This is a lovely peaceful place, helped by the fact that dogs are not allowed! The birding is good too, lots of waders, as well as very tame, chaffinches blackbirds and Robins, helped no doubt by the no dog policy. This is how a 'proper' nature reserve should be! On my first visit today, birds included, Black Tailed Godwit, Redshank, Curlew, shellduck, blackcap, chiffchaff and some rather watchable sand martins pinching nesting material from other nesting holes in the sand martin wall! There were also a pair of kestrels, a red kite and a buzzard over the car park area.
