Unfortunately I can't give a positive review. Regardless of the quality of the country park as a whole, my evening was tainted heavily by the abysmal and frankly stupid exit onto the A3 motorway from the park. I became part of a car accident as our driver (through no fault of her own) found herself coming off the penultimate bend before joining the slip road onto the dual carriageway. Luckily, neither myself, driver or additional passenger was injured physically, but of course a great deal of emotional damage has been caused. One would rightly assume that they are immediately onto the slip road joining the A3 once they exit the country park car park as the road leading to the actual slip road runs parallel to the dual carriageway. At approx. 21:30pm when we were leaving QECP, in the mild fog and pouring rain, perhaps a sign warning of the tight bends up ahead or even any kind of streetlights / cat eyes / cones would've alerted us to the dangerously tight and misleading bends that preceded the slip road. Our driver thought they were already on the slip road to join the dual carriageway but instead realised all too late that we were in fact on a road leading to the slip road, and our speed in combination with the slippery road surface caused us to come off the road and into a bush. I write this review after having had a week to process and understand what happened on the night of our accident and I cannot fault my driver in any way. I place the blame entirely on whoever is responsible for the safety of road users along that stretch of road. I am infuriated, to say the least, at the lack of regard for road safety and hold far more anger due the emotional consequences this has had on those of us affected by the crash. I urge anyone visiting the country park to experience its difficult and unreasonably dangerous roads in the daylight, under good weather conditions and with the utmost caution prior to any...
Read moreCame here for a short walk with my parents (mum is mobility impaired) as advised there was a short walk my mum might manage with a rolator. Arriving, there is numberplate recognition for paperless parking, the car park is level, has 3 disabled spaces and 2 electric car charging ports. In the main visitor center we found there to be an off road mobility scooter which could be borrowed! Mum was very nervous about new technology but the staff were incredible, opening an area for her to practice in rivacy whilst taking time to encourage and reassure and teach her to use it. This enabled mum to join us for a proper dog walk, the first in 7 years! Fabulous! Be aware the paths arent brilliantly marked and can be a little confusing. There are also some which are chalky and can therefore be very slippery (We werent in proper walking shoes as not expecting such a walk and it was dangerously slippy for us). Wear decent shoes and bring poles if needed. If you are letting your pup off lead, be aware there are mudjacks in the grounds which can prove an overwhelming urge for some pups to chase and potentially get lost. If you dont have 100% faith in their recall, maybe leave them on a long line. There is a proper dog wash station in addition to water bowls etc just by the visitor center. They ask you to ensure your 4 legged friend isnt bogging and is fed and watered before going in the cafe to join you. Please read the dog etique signs before entering. Stopped for the "obligatory coffee and cake". Coffees were very nice as was the soup, lemon drizzle cake and sausage rolls. Service friendly and attentive. Every member of staff we interacted with yesterday were BRILLIANT. Thank you for a...
Read moreThis is just off the A3 and we thought it would be an ideal place to stop and have some lunch and have a wonder. Having never been before we parked up in the car park and started to wonder...
The place is pretty big, so we never got all round it, got the impression it was good for those who liked mountain biking - the route we went I was expecting more footpath type cut throughs, and ended up walking along the bike trail a couple of times before getting up to the Juniper area at the top.
At the top is an area for toilets, kids play area, food and drink kiosk. The whole place has bbq areas, but I think you have to pay to use them.
I was disappointed in the price for parking, £5 for two hours and £7 if we had gone over. We popped into visitor centre to get a leaflet and would have been charged £2 if we took one. Bbq areas are chargeable as well...! Signage wasn't great when we got in, we hadn't appreciated the multiple parking options and a clear sign as you come in would have been very helpful! (We walked up from visitor centre with a 4 and w year old!) Also didn't like the volume of dog mess - I do appreciate this isn't a fault of the country park but of the dog owners, but still didn't add to...
