We booked for the Santa special on the 22nd of December costing £48 after reading such great reviews we were very excited. Upon arrival at the station, cars lined the road upon the muddy verge with people strewn across the road, we then entered the car park which best resembled a mud bath. To the platform we went which was very lack luster in festive spirit Abit of tinsel thrown around with some budget friendly blow up Christmas garden ornaments lining the platform. On to the coach we went which was very dirty and decrepit, it to lacking any festive cheer. We took our seats and then waited to depart, 10 to 15 minutes later santa made a lack luster appearance followed by his "elves" he greeted everyone and then proceeded to hand the children gifts which could of come from your local pound shop. Very brief in dilect and interaction with the children telling them 'he will bring more presents christmas eve' as he then would move on to the next child rolling of the same speach. After making his way through the carriage and back that was the last we saw of him until the very end where you could then cue up to have a photograph taken with him in another carragie towards the rear of the train. Whilst Santa had made his brief appearance we then approached the "North Pole" no more than a sign hung on the station platform nothing north polish about it, very disappointed. The train then reversed back towards the station. Out pops a very poor excuse of an "elf" with a speaker and a microphone to then sing three songs with the children by this time we were back in the station with the opportunity to go see santa in his "grotto" after cueing patiently we got a photograph with santa and our children although he never spoke to them. Very disappointed in our experience, £48 was alot of money for what we got. I feel cheated out of a festive experience which is supposed to feel magical for the children. Unfortunately we won't be visiting again and it is a shame because if could be something brilliant. We shall stick the garden centres in future Bytree garden centre being one we...

This is a very small railway, a work in progress using the remaining track of the line which connected Grimsby to Louth and beyond. The journey is short and there is no passing track. This has been noted in other reviews but the group are trying to extend the track. What makes it utterly special to visit is the effort all the volunteers have gone to to make it a quality experience. There is a great cafe in old coaches, an ice cream stall selling home made ice cream - wonderful - a shop (affordable prices!) and a tiny but fascinating museum and engine shed. Toilets and picnic area too plus free car park, although we had a picnic on the train. The volunteer team put on special events, today was based on The Greatest Showman. Such good fun! All the staff and volunteers care that you are having a good time. Child and dog friendly. Worth noting how kind they were to my adult son with disabilities. Super utility steam train and nice views on the journey over the top end of the Wolds. We arrived 1.40pm and had two trips and left 4.15pm. Train prices are very affordable, see web site. Lunch is a good time to visit too, and they do Fish and Chip suppers and Cream Teas. These places are national treasures and need support. Throughly recommend. We...

We booked this for the children and were told it was a round table with 8 seats. Myself and my wife and 3 children. We're happy to accept the fact we would be sharing however... when we arrived in the carriage we were told that the booking company they use (that absolutely isn't anything tk do with them) made an error and in fact the 'compartment' holds 6 people... Well as you can probably imagine. Myself and my wife and my 3 children would be fine. However the family that had already arrived on the same understanding of places in the cabin etc. Don't get me wrong it was nice to get close and snuggy to complete strangers. However for me the attitude of 'it ain't us it's the booking provider' I asked for thier details but recieved nothing back despite asking twice.

After this the train ride was actually alright. Not ideal for my 11 or 8yr old boys. However my 2.5yr boy literally loved it and danced the...

The Lincolnshire Wolds Railway is a short but sweet line run by some of the best and nicest people you could ever hope to meet! I usually have immense anxiety in social situations, but the volunteers at the LWR have a way of bringing me out of my shell and sparking amazing conversations. I especially enjoy talking to footplate crews between trips, from whom I have picked up a treasure trove of information! Another amazing aspect is the Haggler's Halt shop, I've picked up many a bargain model from there! The home fleet of locomotives is incredibly diverse too. While most are either undergoing or awaiting overhaul, two Pecketts, a Barclay, an RSH and a wide selection of diesels is nothing to scoff at! TL;DR, the Lincolnshire Wolds Railway is a must-visit if you've got even a semblance of interest in steam and I'll be back down soon!

Amazing experience once you've paid for your ticket can travel up and down the line from 10.45 to 2.45, my elderly father in law uses a mobility scooter and the rear carriage has a ramp and open space so it can be stored in there, very accomodating. The carriages are absolutely beautiful with very comfortable seating. Amazing to see the guys getting the coal ready when the train gets back to ludborough for the next run out to north thoresby. At ludborough there are toilets on the other side of the tracks, also the steaming kettle which is very well priced for food and tea coffee etc. North Thoresby has a little snack shop with drinks also. Thoroughly enjoyed it, will be visiting again for the Halloween and santa specials

Very nicely set up and well run, it felt like we were really in the years when this would have run. It was nicely busy, toilets kept clean, areas to have picnics, a café for snacks and drinks, plenty of parking, play area for small children, the train was kept clean and the engine was in wonderful condition. Good access for wheelchair and disabled users. We thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. We were even lucky enough to enjoy the nature with butterflies and wild deers in the fields. Definitely worthwhile for train fanatics and at least for a relaxed couple of hours to enjoy the train and the whole set up, the passion of the volunteers and staff was channelled into the whole experience. Definitely worth a visit.
