Parked at Woodall spa , walked up the high street turned left at the kinema sign then up the footpath through the golf course up to sandy lane , turned left walked for a couple of hundred feet to the beginning of the spa trail on our left , followed this to Horncastle approx 4/5 miles flat easy trail through farmland and countryside, art installations and information boards along the way . We did it on a Monday so it was all but deserted apart from a few dog walkers ( nearly the whole trail smells of dog poo ) . You can walk or cycle the route . We arrived in Horncastle to find nearly everything closed on a monday ( our fault should have done our homework) but we did find a great cafe in the little square in the centre . We had planned to walk both ways but due to time constraints with parking at Woodall spa , we decided to get the bus back , only to find that the bus service in the area is non existent , operated by different companies which at best you could describe as sporadic . We waited for a Briline bus that never arrived , and asked other random buses that stopped if they went through Woodall spa , one driver said he,d never heard of it , another said he,d heard of it but never been ! , and a lady driver point blank refused to answer ? . Eventually we got a taxi back to woodall , Russ,s taxis, the only taxi firm in Horncastle ( he was excellent, brilliant on local knowledge ) . We finished the day in The Dorric cafe which was excellent, again the owner was a mine of useful information. If we do it again we will take our bikes , which will enable us to discover more of the area under...
Read moreVery easy flat walk, however it has high hedges/shrubbery/trees each side so there isn't much to see. The artwork/sculptures are sadly not in a good condition, very few & far between & very overgrown with nettles etc. There are a few info boards explaining the former use of the track. Its probably a there & back walk unless you try to get public transport to take you back to your start point, can't comment on how easy that would be. The start from Woodhall Spa, was the best part of the walk across the golf course. We did complete all of the walk, starting each end & walking halfway & back. Sadly not a walk I would do again, just too straight & not...
Read moreLovely for a dog walk, walk or bike ride (although quite narrow track in sections) all weather path. be careful around half way along, the small car park is really close to a very fast road. We've seen a couple of dogs bolt towards it. Just be mindful if passing this little section! Some areas have barbed wire (at the base of the fence running parallel to the path near woodhall spa end) watch it if your dogs off lead/extended lead that they don't get caught...
