This is a stunning and magnificent Georgian Stately Home and Estate situated in the middle of the Cornish Countryside. The home is owned by the Molesworth-St Aubyns Family and the inside of the home itself is spectacular with grand and wonderful furniture along with beautiful portraits on show. Entry to to the house is by guided tour only at set times throughout the day and these last approx. 1 hour and these tours are thoroughly informative and interesting detailing the history of the Property and the Molesworth-St Aubyn who own it along with items of interest in the house. Sadly there is no photography in the house due to insurance purposes but it is worth a look all the same to see the fantastic items of interest and find out about the history of the family. The exterior of the building is marvellous with the spectacular Georgian architecture and stands out beautifully particularly on a wonderful sunny summer's day. The garden themselves are excellent providing some wonderful and easy going walks up to the lake where you can enjoy some beautiful views across it and the views are even better with the water lilies on show. The borders around the house are particularly beautiful with beautiful array of colour and the garden themselves look particularly spectacular in May/June with the beautiful Rhododendrons in flower. On your visit around the grounds of the Hall you can spot the Indian Peafowl who are particularly characters sitting on the ledges of the houses. There is a cafe on site selling a range of refreshments at reasonable prices and there is a gift shop at the entrance selling a lovely range of souvenirs at reasonable prices. Overall this is a marvellous and enjoyable day out to learn about a beautiful family home and the history of it along with enjoying some spectacular gardens and lovely...
Read moreThis beautiful Georgian house was one of the highlights of my holiday! We came here on a day excursion, and stayed for about three hours. The approach to the house is up a long and narrow lane through beautiful wooded parkland. At the entrance, we were split into two small groups, which made the hour-long house tour more relaxed and everything easier to see and absorb. Our guide Kat was both friendly and very knowledgeable, sharing lots of fascinating facts about the house and its secrets, and its eventful family history. It seemed that every portrait, ornament and artefact had an interesting story behind it! The tour covered two floors, taking us through rooms filled not only with fine furniture, paintings, china, musical instruments, and decorative cabinets, but also family photos and memorabilia that made them feel cosier, very lived-in and much loved. We were encouraged to ask lots of questions, but no photography allowed. Chairs were provided in case anyone needed to rest. The Peacock Café was the perfect place to relax after our tour, with outside tables and a small vaulted interior. They serve light meals, hot drinks, and what a tempting selection of homemade cakes on display! Tried the raspberry and white chocolate frangipani cake, with a Cornish hot chocolate - both delicious! The dog friendly gardens were a delight to explore, immaculately kept with magnificent woods, a tranquil lake, and some more unusual features to discover, including a grotto and a Celtic cross. Loved the gorgeous blue hydrangeas lining the shady paths. There's a friendly gift shop at the entrance where you can get good quality ornaments, leather goods, silk scarves and much more, and also a bookshop. I thoroughly enjoyed the time we spent at Pencarrow, and would have stayed much longer! Would...
Read moreA stunning drive up to the house - trees were striking. Plenty of car parking, and additional if needed. Gardens stunning and well kept. Booked for house tour which, for me, was a little too detailed for my liking. Would have been helpful to know it took about an hour, to see a few rooms. Personally, I'd have preferred to wander through without the guide, but with info in the rooms if desired, as it was a little too much info on a who's who of portraits and antiques roadshow esque detail about porcelain. There's a briefing at the start of the tour, no photos, no touching, no sitting (except on the blue chairs) You enter the library, doors are locked behind you, and the first thing i noticed was the sinister looking "scary Mary" doll with the mangled leg! (A story in itself). The guide was friendly and very enthusiastic, with lots of anecdotes, but felt like I had had enough at half the tour. Wanted to slip off early, but doors were locked. Our teenager stayed out to wander the gardens whilst we did the house... a better shout in my opinion. Down to personal preference really. Nothing wrong whatsoever with the tour, just personal preference as to how much detail you want. Needed a sit down and a brew to recover afterwards... Peacock Cafe nice, and can recommend the mocha. Would return to visit the beautiful gardens, but I'd give the house a miss next time. August 2025 .. visited the grounds and cafe in a drizzly afternoon. Lovely stroll through gardens, past the lake, through the woods and on to the iron age fort. Beautiful, and easy walking. Cream tea treat in the cafe ... very delicious scones and huge pot of tea, nice surroundings and friendly staff. ...
