Holidaying at Haven Quay West and went here having picked one of their pamphlets from reception. Entry prices on day of our visit (2/7/19) were £8 adult, £7.50 child. I thought this might be a little pricey, and first impressions when we arrived at 11:30 were "hmmm, not much to this place". Well after leaving at gone 17:00 having still not managed to do everything, safe to say I'd changed my opinion!
Firstly, I'm not much of an animal person at all, let alone "the horsey type", but this didn't matter and shouldn't put anyone off. The staff are so passionate about their work and animals you just get taken in. We went on an off-peak i.e. school day so perhaps not as busy as it could be, but Mark (joint farm owner and runner) was going round the place the whole day telling everyone about each tractor ride / animal talk etc that was about to take place so nobody who didn't want to missed out on any activity.
Even if you weren't interested in the horses / talks there were so many other things to keep bored kids occupied: soft play area, pedal quad bikes, big sand pit, playground, swings, even crazy golf. Plus a charming nature walk round the fields where you could take in the view and have a few mins peace and quiet!
So very enjoyable for us, glad we went. I would say best suited for couples / adult groups (dogs were welcome too) plus families with children up to 12 yrs.
Also just a mention about the mini bowling alley and museum to visit as well. Amongst several other things I...
Read moreWe have just had a great Monday to Friday holiday at the camp site. Hue the owner couldn’t be more helpful. Aswell at Mark and Matt too. Huw lives on-site and was so hospitable and friendly. Our gas bottle ran out on day 1; rookie mistake. And Matt provided us with a loan gas bottle and cooker until we got sorted; which wasn’t until Thursday! But Nothing was too much trouble.
The facilities for kids is great too. Play park, crazy golf, shire horses, donkeys, alpacas and so much more. All accessible if camping.
This is a diamond in the rough, no frills campsite. It’s Small, traditional and dare I say almost old fashioned place but we and the kids loved it. And will definitely come back. I loved the fact that it wasn’t commercialized at all. And made a refreshing change. There wasn’t a mass of plastic tat for the kids to buy so they were just happy exploring and made lots of friends during the week. A parents dream!
The wash/bathroom facilities are basic but if you look past that the showers have great pressure, are hot and do the job!
Perfectly position with Newport about 20 mins away and fishguard and Aberreidy about 45 mins away. All by car!
Thank you Huw for your hospitality , we...
Read moreWe'd read all the reviews and had high expectations, but were left disappointed. This is simply a small farm trying to supplement its income by trying to market itself as a tourist attraction. Unfortunately all the 'attractions' seemed like they were simply done on the cheap. There's a tractor ride which is simply a trailer with a couple of benches bolted to it which takes a tour of the farm's various fields. Not really much to see. There is a nature trail which is just a walk along some hedgerows. The play area is tiny and not enough to keep a child occupied for long. There was a ferret race demonstration which just seemed a random add-on simply because they had some ferrets.
However the Shire horses themselves were lovely, and the owners are rightfully proud of them. There's just not really a lot to see of them.
The saving grace is the price charged is not exorbitant, so we didn't feel ripped off, just not sufficiently enthused to go back.
Also the coffee shop had good food without being too overpriced.
Overall it was OK, but not really deserving of the glowing reviews...
