We wouldn't have even known this tower existed without Trip Advisor! It's located about 5 minutes off the A1 along a narrow road but is well signposted and there is a good sized car park there. Payment is via an honesty box and is a bargain at £2 each. There are walks in the woodland (which we didn't do as we had an 8 hour drive ahead of us!) and the tower itself to see. The information provided within the tower puts many much larger attractions to shame. There was extensive information on these type of towers, on border reivers and local politics and the battle of Flodden. The tower is less than half the original size but you could explore rooms on each floor plus take in the views from the roof. This could have been a 5 minute visit but the wealth of information meant we were there almost an hour. One bit of advice - the light switch is on the ground floor and we didn't notice it until we were coming down the stairs so turn...

Woww what a little gem it is PRIVATELY owned by Harry it’s been in his family home from 1862. It’s showing how people lived back in 1405 the rooms have been laid out to represent true representation. There is no coffee or cake shop on site it’s just the tower and gardens. You can take sandwiches with you and sit in the gardens or round the tower and enjoy the beauty. BUT please take all rubbish away with you keep dogs on the lead and be respectful!! as this is his home. It is £4 to enter there is an honesty box you can leave cash? or scan the QR code to pay. It’s a must go see location two hours should be enough to get round it all. The views from the tower top...

My visit to the 14th-century Preston Tower in Northumberland was like stepping back into medieval times. The tower, once a fortified structure built to defend against border raids, is a well-preserved example of a "pele tower." As you explore its stone staircases and thick walls, you can imagine the lives of those who lived there centuries ago. Inside, you'll find displays on the history of the tower, offering a glimpse into the turbulent past of this border region. The tranquil, rural setting contrasts with its defensive origins, making it a fascinating mix of history...
