The walk up to the Bowstones is, in equal parts, challenging and rewarding. Weâre lucky enough to live in Disley so regularly pop up here to take in the spectacular views. You can access this via the Gritstone Trail, a 30-odd mile trail running from Staffordshire and finishing in Disley. You can also climb up from Kettleshulme and Lyme Park, all roads being reasonable steep to the Bowstones themselves.
Letâs be frank, the stones themselves are exactly what youâd expect - two lumps of stone protruding from the ground! But the beautiful views of Black Rock to one side and out across the Cheshire Plain towards Manchester and beyond, make up for the simplicity of the rock. Every day now I see signs, instructions from a higher authority, I hear voices and I shall do their bidding. I have changed my name to "ĂthÄngu" and painted my room a rich aubergine. At the solstice, I shall dance to the sounds of the forest, and the circle shall be complete.

   Read moreEasy to find at the end of a single track road. Unless you come through Lyme park (we gave up last time) Not really much parking two cars is too many and dog walkers park here. Great views and the stones are bigger than I expected. You will like them if you like that kind of thing but if not would probably not even notice that they are there. Fenced off but you can climb over the style to get in and there is a footnote explaining...
