Overlooking Hawkshead and Windermere is Latterbarrow. Someone we met at the Sun Inn in Hawkshead over a pint of Swan Blond recommended this hike. We were based about 20 minutes from there and took the footpaths which are mostly helpful, except when there aren't any! Took the route that included a steep scramble to get to the top, before finding a more gentle way to descend. Worth it though, great views, good cardio workout, and then back to the pub for a well earned beer.

Lovely gentle walk (Approaching from High Wray) leading to fantastic panoramic views over Oldgate, Hawkshead, Windermere and numerous fells beyond. The substantial Cairn at the top marks the highest point before a steep descent back down. Easy to walk as a round route, or to incorporate as part of something longer

A very quick up and down easy hill but with great views of Windermere to one side and over to the Coniston range the other. Interesting huge cairn at the top as well with very old graffiti from centuries ago scratched on the rocks, look out for it it there.

Lovely walk to the top of this hill, very accessible for kids. The whole walk took us about 2.5 hours from the car park in Hawkshead with kids ages 8 & 10. If you watch which path you take there’s a nice gentle, steady climb up through the woods, then a steeper more direct route back down and across farm fields. Can be muddy and I’d recommend decent walking shoes as the route down is stoney. Stunning views from the top, usually you have to climb a lot higher to get this sort of panorama, so definitely best climbed in...

Ideally needs a nice day to appreciate the view. The route up from the Windermere shore (especially Red Nab car park) may be longer than you think. The path from the South (leading off the main path to Hawkshead) meanders and rises and falls more than the map suggests. There is another path off the summit (heading SE or SSE) clearly marked on the OS map which appears to no longer be accessible Plenty to explore. Depending on your route nice mix of woodland and fell. Decent paths extend onto...
