We arrived at 11.30am with great expectations having read the other reviews but was very disappointed with the look and feel of the place. There were piles of rubbish and empty compost bags lying around and also a skip filled with the same sort of rubbish. An office come ticket area was very dirty, messy and looked disused. No one was around at all; the so called coffee shop in the house itself was closed. A note on another door said to call a mobile nbr or knock on a conservatory door 'If I haven't materalised'. Needless to say I knocked but no answer; the conservatory was also as messy as the other areas already seen. Also, one of our party was in a mobility scooter and, even though the website said wheelchair friendly, the terrain was not ideal. Lots of quirky seating dotted about, which is good for those needing a seat or just to sit and relax whilst enjoying the different aspects of the garden. The quiz-maze is both fun and educational as are the numerous information panels that inform about the effects of climate change and suggest how we may change our gardening methods for the benefit of ourselves and nature. There are also plants available for purchase. The owner, Hazel is very knowledgeable about her plants and trees. A really nice place to stop for an hour or two. Dog friendly. Read moreIf you were expecting a crowded, well manicured , commercialised garden centre with cafe and toilet facilities then you would be disappointed.We came open minded and were delighted with this wild and wonderful 12 acre area of tranquility and wild life which has been created by the very knowledgeable and friendly Hazel over many years. There are over 200 species of beautiful trees and the same of shrubs, with lots of quirky little seats and sculptures dotted around. Perfect picnic in the grounds and just wandered round to our hearts content. Must return in the Spring to enjoy a different...
